New radio install

I am debating about removing my stock radio and installing one that is satellite ready. If I do this will the dealer have to do any programming for the radio to work? Also I saw on crutchfield it showed I need a door ringer as well, is this true?

If I do this would you recommend I do a single or double din in height?

Thanks and have a nice day.

No, the dealer shouldn't need to do any programming for an aftermarket radio. You will need a vehicle specific harness and the chime module (if you want to keep the chime feature). If you have steering wheel controls, you'll probably need the module for that too.

If you have a factory radio with the "BAND" button you can get a Sirius tuner made for it.

It's what I have in my '07 Classic and it works just fine.

Generally the aftermarket HU gives better sound quality though espically if you have aftermarket speakers because they put out more power than the stock ones.

If you get an aftermarket head unit, get ready to drop some cash. I was going to get an Alpine CD player, then I found out that I had to buy a $150 dollar 'adapter' because some GM security feature or some B.S., and then Id have to buy another $60 dollar adapter so I can use the steering wheel controls. What a bunch of crap. The $150 dollar adapter was Best buys price (usually overpriced and them some), and the $60 adapter for the steering wheel controls was on crutchfield. So Im staying stock.

I just recently put in an Alpine IVA-D100, from crutchfield. The only problem I had was stuffing all of the wires into the dash. All of the wiring harnesses can with the equipment from crutchfield. In order to get the Sirius, I had to buy the adapted ($99) with the system. But hey, once you get over $1000 for a head unit, what's another $99? HAHAHAHA. I love the sound from the new unit. While it only has an 18x4 amp with it, I'm going to be adding 2 JL amps in the near future. I still have the door chime on mine, as well as the delayed on (the part where the radio stays on until you open the door). The only issue I have is that the shifter arm is too long, and I have to close the radio prior to putting th truck in park. However, this kind of works out, because I don't have the screen up when I park, so others don't see it, which is nice.
