Minor mods to Clean up the truck ???

Recommended Posts

Posted

Just got a brand new black 06 ext cab 4x4 silverado. Im wanting to do a few minor things to make the appearance a bit more 'clean' so i have a few questions:

-Door handles, id like some painted ones to match the rest of the truck. part #? approx cost? (driver, passenger, tail gate)

-Turn Signals, Id like to get some clear ones. How involved is the work needed to do this? approx cost? part #?

- Badge / body molding removal, is there anything i could do to mess this up? some people recommend goo gone, some say goof off, some say to avoid them. From what i gather, people say to use a hair dryer on the moldings than work fishing line in there and peel them off with your hands (no bolts???) and then use the goo gone (or whatever) with a rag to get off the residue left behind...is this all agreed upon?

- have not yet decided but i might want to remove the 4x4 sticker above the rear tires..how can i do this?

- am i able to paint the bottom bumper (the plastic part beneath the chrome) to match the rest of the body? if so, is there a successful way to protect the paint from rock/bug chips? approx cost of this project?

- same question with painting the mirrors to be 'glossy' black like the rest of the body

- my bowtie is gold, to make it silver, do i need to paint it or just get a silver one? how do i swap it?

i know i asked a ton of minor questions. thanks for any help...feel free to attack each question individually...thanks so much

well i did most of those things..... Clear front signals bought off ebay for about $38 with shipping bought clear bulbs at local auto place installed in 5 mins..... Removed side stickers with hairdryer there is no need for special goo you just rub it off with your fingure but switch up or youll get a blister. as for the side i took off my 4x4 and i but the 1500 off the side doors but left the chevy logo which i have never seen just that before which looks nice and i removed the chevrolet off the tailgate which took the longest. another good one is to get ford torsion keys and lift the front end 1.5 inches to be level with back. Ive got 3 or 4" on the rear so far and im going to do a 3inch lift in the front with ford keys basically the cheapest way to go. Thats just a few things that will improve the look and id go with more sidewall on the tires would look nice. The best thing ive seen is a tonneau cover if you get one those definetly add lots of style

- have not yet decided but i might want to remove the 4x4 sticker above the rear tires..how can i do this?: DO IT!! Use hair dryer.

- am i able to paint the bottom bumper: Here is a good how to! How To

- same question with painting the mirrors to be 'glossy' black like the rest of the body: See above also.

- my bowtie is gold, to make it silver, do i need to paint it or just get a silver one? how do i swap it?

All great mods

Door Handles - Contact P&G Chevrolet at www.partszoneonline.com and order some Cadillac Escalade or Chevy Tahoe door handles and tailgate handle bezel (or you can paint your bezel). Companies like www.jpcustoms.com sell billet rear tailgate handles - very nice pieces.

Clear front turn signal lamps - these are very affordable and readily available on ebay

Badge/molding removal - sounds like you've got a handle on it  Just re-wax/polish the area once you are done.

Remove the 4x4 decals the same way.

You can buy painted mirror covers from P&G Chevrolet

Front bowtie - that is pretty easy to remove and paint yourself or have it done locally. Personally I like the billet bowties.

I will always recommend P&G over GM Parts Direct, real people who actually reply to your questions and REAL shipping charges :flag:

Here are some black handles but I suggest going with the ones with the chrome handles...they look sweet!

Handles on Ebay.

For 2005 and 2006 they didn't make a black painted mirror cover (red, silver, white, chrome only) so you will have to paint to match. You can get the chrome ones...they look sweet with the painted chrome handles!

thanks for the ebay link...i checked on ebay, i don't know how i missed this. These are exactly what i am looking for. I don't at all disagree about the chrome handles/mirror covers looking great, it's just not the look i am going for.

These ebay handles are $71, is this a good price? How much would it cost just to have them painted?

Thanks for the info about the mirror covers, any idea how much it would cost to have those painted? Im only looking for ball park estimates if you don't know for sure

thanks

$71 is pretty good and I have bought from that seller before and they are good. I would just buy the handles and not try to paint the stock ones, too much trouble.

As far as the mirror covers go, painting those yourself will be considerably cheaper than having a body shop do it. Use that link I gave you on how to paint plastic pieces and you should be good. I have some spares I could give you just in case you mess up, so let me know and I can send them to you.

You say you took your 1500 labeling off of the side. On my truck the bowtie and the "1500" are all one piece. Did you just cut the 1500 away from the bowtie?
