Trailer wiring harness

Recommended Posts

Just bought an 2007 Sierra Crew Cab. I will be installing a receiver hitch and found the factory wiring bundle up under the spare tire. I need to purchase the wiring harness to plug into the bundled 7 pin connector for a 4 wire trailer connection. Is this a dealer option or can I get it else where?? And for how much???

Thanks for the help.

You should be able to get it at WalMart, Uhaul, or any auto parts store for around $20.

I bought one a Wal-Mart that's a 7-pin and 4-pin combination connector. It's by Hoppy and the part # is 40955. Of course it's for my 03 Silverado so it may be different for the 07's.

He could always take the 4way/7way combo and cut the backside connector off and direct wire it if the backside connector doesn't fit his. I got one from Advance for my '99 (OBS) with just the wires on the ends, for about $17. Use bare butt connectors, crimp, solder, shrink tube and tape it all up. It won't have any problems with bad connections then.

If your trailer has the standard 4-wire flat connector, you can get an adapter that plugs into the 7-pin connector that the trailer package uses. The wiring inside the adapter allows the trailer's single brake/turn signal bulb to work properly even though your truck has separate bulbs for brake and turn signal.

I would go ahead and install the 7-pin connector and just buy the adapter. They only cost a few dollars and are available at just about any parts store. That way you are covered for small and large trailers for electricl connections.

If you intend to tow a trailer at some point in time that has a 7-pin connector, make sure you add the 10A fuse in the underhood box so that the 12V power wire is hot at the connector. You will need it for 12V to supply power to charge the battery for the breakaway emergency brake system.

That will work fine on the 07 Classic. from what I've heard, it won't on the new body, but I haven't looked under one yet...

Valley Industries sells one that looks the same, But I don't know the part #
