EMCS

Question

drivers side OSRV mirror vibrates at highway speeds on my new 2006 silverado 2wd ext cab. have installed an after market bug deflector and when i went to the dealer with the complant, i received the info from tech bulletin 1688853, which states the cause may be from the bug deflector. However with my limited engineering experance i would think that if this was the case then both mirrors would be affected. any other ideas?

Turbulance is a funny thing. It may not be the same across the whole front of the truck, therefore it may not affect both mirrors in the same manner. Bug deflectors are usually pretty easy to take off, so I'd take it off and see if that really is/was the cause.

Here's that bulletin you referred to:

Subject: Service VME - Outside Rearview Mirror Vibration - keywords glass left power right #PIT3671 - (08/02/2005)

Models: 2003-2006 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT

2003-2006 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe

2003-2006 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon Denali, Yukon XL, Yukon Denali XL

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

SERVICE VME

Some customers may comment that their outside rear view mirror (RPO DL3 or DL8) appears to be vibrating at highway speeds. Root cause may be the installation of an air/bug deflector on the hood of the vehicle. Remove the deflector, test drive with the customer to ensure issue has been corrected. DO NOT replace the mirrors, as any replacement mirror will experience the same condition. Air deflectors alter the air flow pattern that the OSRV mirrors were not designed for and may result in potential mirror glass vibration.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
