2002 2500HD Steering box question

Hello All,

I have a question about steering boxes. My last post indicated that I am test driving a 2002 2500HD 8.1/allison. It has 69,00 miles currently. Over the weekend I had placed cardboard under the truck to see if there were any fluids leaking. It paid off, I found some liquid, 1 inch round spot after sitting for 10 hours. This morning I took the vehicle in for a standard pre delivery check up as I am buying this from an independent dealer. The Dealer service manager called and said I had a very leaky steering box and recommended replacement for around $650. I would like to know if you have had any other issues start of become worse because of this intital fault. The vehicle also has 285's and they recommended an alignment.

Other issues:

Horn does not work - should I be concerned about drivers airbag? I have not checked the fuse yet...

Thanks!

Steering box's go for about $300 from Napa and are pretty easy to replace. My steering pump is wet, but doesn't drip. My box doesn't leak, but it's sloppy.

As far as horns go, mine have went bad after driving in rain. There are two, one on each side of the radiator. They come off easy and you can shake them to see if there is water in them. Pep Boys replacements bolt right in and even use the same clips.

Nothing worse than a sloppy box

Friend of mine lost the horn is his canyon. Took it out and shook it around and there was all sorts of water in there. After putting it back together it gurgled for a bit but then started working fine after it was dry.

I kinda laughed when I wrote that too!   I was wondering if somebody would pick up on it.

Im quite the wizeazz, i live for things like that

BTW, how does that 6.0L feel with 37's? What gears you got in there? I think my next set of tires will be 35's but i can already feel some sluggishness with my 33's - especially with some weight in the back.
