G80 Diff Lube Canadian GM Part Number

On my 04 Silverado Z71, I had my diff fluid changed back in October.

On the weekend my rear axle locked up after I spun the tires on the gravel shoulder. The next corner I turned on pavement the inside wheel was sqealing. It took two more turns before the problem went away. I have no problem like this before the fluid change and it has been fine since.

I was looking at my receipt and the part number for the rear diff lube is different than what is recommended in my owners manual. I think my dealer may have put the wrong fluid in.

Could these symptoms be caused by the wrong fluid?????

Thanks

Sounds like your locker was still locked when going around that corner. Release of the locking mechanism requires a torque reversal so I suppose it's possible you never let off enough to allow the mechanism to release? I don't see fluid being able to cause this problem.

Here's what our service information says to use as far as fluid...

Synthetic Axle Lubricant; use only GM Part No. U.S. 12378557, in Canada 88901362. Do not add friction modifier.

That's different than any of the part numbers you listed. Keep in mind that GM seems to love changing part numbers for reasons that are beyond me. So the part number they used may be exactly the right stuff but just had a part number change.

Thanks you hit the nail right on the head. I just off the phone with the local dealer and he said the number in the owners manual 10953455 has been changed to 89021678. So I have the right stuff.

After 2 left turns with the left rear tire squaling I made a right hand turn and the problem disappeared. Maybe I'll go try to duplicate the problem.
