Rear door trouble

I bought a 2002 Silverado 2500HD with an extended cab today. I love it. Prior to buying it I knew that the outside handle of the driver side did not work. - It felt like it wasnt connected to anything. I was still able to open it from the inside.

Today I was washing it and noticed it looked like the drivers door wasnt fully closed. I opened it and found it was actually the door for the extended cab that was not closed all the way. I opened it and closed it a few times and could never get it closed all the way. After opening and closing it 3 or 4 times the inside handle stopped working too. (I wasn't slamming it or anything) Now the rear door will not fully close and I cant open it to see whats going on.

I've read several posts on here about problems with the extended cab door on the drivers side. Is it something that requires special alignment?

My more important question is: how do I get the door open if both handles are not working? I would like to get it open so I can inspect the handles more closely and make whatever repairs are needed.

A dealer would not take care of this if over 100k miles right?

Any other comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Joe

When you say take care of it, you mean under some sort of warranty repair? Not a chance.

If neither door handle works, you're going to have to get the trim off to get into the door to open it. I don't do this kind of work so I'm not familiar with it. Getting the trim off with the door closed is going to be very difficult.
