Dash dimming

chev suburban 2002 5.3 70,000 miles. Does not seem to happen all the time, but the dash lights sometimes pulse like a heart beat. Bight to dull. Is this a battery or an altenator? The battery is a couple of years old. Thanks Steve

Might be a bad ground or the dimmer rotary switch can be going bad. The dimmer switch is a sort of resistor and if you keep the dash lights fairly low, the switch will heat up more than if the lights are set at the brightest setting.
