89' GMC Sierra with 33's.

Travelling at the same speed, when 4x4 is engaged my truck turns about twice the RPM as it would in 2 wheel drive. Obvousily it's going to have to work harder so that could account for some incrase in RPM's, but is this totally normal? This is my first 4x4 so Im just getting used to whats normal and whats not. Also, the 4x4 has a whine noise too when your going slower, but goes away when speed increases, again, this normal?

Also, I know that I have to be stoped to engage the 4x4, but can I come back into two wheel drive "on the fly" ?

thanks in advance
