2003 silverado 3500. The SIR fuse blows at random. When the fuse blows the SIR light comes on. When you turn the ingnition on the light stays on, it doesn't flash like normal. Where could the short be?

I have the Service Manual aand the schematics show where the wires are running. It looks like it's a 15 Amp fuse blowing so there's got to be a good hard short somewhere. I would think it must be a wire that's cut or melted.

It would take a good while to check all of the wires but I can't think of any other way to isolate the location of the short.

It's impossible to tell you where the short could be. Wiring runs all over the place and it could be anywhere. The fact that it's intermittent makes it even more difficult to narrow down.

The air bag module is under the driver's seat. That's be the first place I'd look since seat movement can often slice wiring. the power lead to the module is a yellow wire in pin position 1. You just need to follow that back to see if you can find out where it's cut.

Do you have an airbag disable switch in the dash for the passenger side air bag? That also gets power off that fuse, so I'd look there, especially if you've ever messed around with putting aftermarket junk in the dash.

There's a remote chance it could be the module itself, but never seen that myself.
