Im trying to decide where to go for our honeymoon. Anyone who is married, where did you go for your honeymoon?

Posted

You live in AK?

Go to Hawaii. :banghead:

You're going to have to be more specific. Do you like beaches? Rollercoasters? Mountain climbing?

Budget?

I've never been married, but I've taken a lot of trips. 48 states and well over 30 countries.

Jamaica was my last one. Had a grand old time. One of the cheapest trips I've taken too.

Plus, I got to wear a cool hat.

Some where outside the US and yes a beach. $4000 budget. The last 2 vacations I have been on were cruises.

Well, my trip to Jamaica cost me $2800 for me and the g/f, and that was all included for 5 days/4 nights. That was airfare, cabs, food, tips, everything. Even all the Red Stripe I could drink and all the daiquiris she could handle. Might cost a bit extra for your airfare though.

Oh, and it was a couples resort, no kiddos. So it was really quiet and relaxing.

That was the only time in my life that I've used a travel agent, and it worked out pretty dang well, as far as having zero stress about arranging everything.

Is there a website for the place you stayed at? Our airfare would be free because we have air miles. If we dont go on a cruise I want one of those all inclusive deals.

Sandals resorts.

We stayed at one of the ones in Ocho Rios, about a two hour bus/cab ride from the airport.

I'll have to tell you though...You DO get what you pay for. It's a smokin' deal (it was to me anyway), but as a beer/wine snob, I was in agony for the selection. And the food, while fairly tasty, was hardly 5 star. But if you've taken cruises, you know how food prepared and served in quantity tastes. The best stuff was the jerk chicken that was served in a couple of the bars on the resort. Kind of a BBQ-esque spicy chicken.

But I give the whole experience a 5 out of 5 because of the atmosphere. Quiet, no screaming kids ANYWHERE, enough activities to keep people that aren't prone to laying on a beach for several days at a time (like me) occupied. Girlfriend learned to scuba, I tried my hand at windsurfing, night activities (organized dance stuff), and things of the like.

There's packages all over the Caribbean like this though. Like I said...The travel agent would probably be fairly useful for this. I didn't have a choice of location, as I was going there for a wedding.

Oh...and Congratulations, by the way :banghead:

lol thanks. It didnt take long for me to make a decision. Were going to go on Royal Carribeans new ship Liberty of the Seas. Its first sail is in May 07. So it will be about 1 1/2 months old.

Sounds great. I would have suggested one of the islands around Hawaii. We went to Acadia National Park at Bar Harbor Maine. It was nice. Found out first hand how cold the Atlantic really is in Aug up there. Burrrrrrr.

When I was planning our honeymoon I was looking in to renting a house in the Bahamas. I found a few that were on deserted beaches, and the reviews said that the guests didn't see anyone else on the beach all week. Which makes clothes optional ;) Anyway, the island I focused on was Eleuthera. I was all set on going there until I realized we'd be there in peak hurricane season (Sep-Dec if i recall correctly) so I chose Kauai instead. Good thing too--there was a hurricane there while we were in Kauai! So that would be my suggestion. And I know you said outside of the US, but I have to put in a plug for Kauai--absolutely fantastic! Outside of that there's always Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, and I think there are supposed to be some fantastic beaches in India too.

I'll second Sandals. I went to Antigua (Carribean) and it was great. Almost 12 years ago...

Very well organized and arranged for the honeymooners with either lots to do or nothing at all, depending on your mood.

The wife & I went to Moorea in '04 and loved every minute of it. We paid for a beach bungalo and the night we checked in they had a few overwater bungalos open and upgraded us at no charge. We stayed at the Sofitel and could see Tahiti from our room. It was a very relaxing atmosphere, nice restaraunts, snorkeling, 4X4 island tours, shark & ray feeding, and last but not least...topless beaches.
