Peeling Dashboard

To the right of the passenger side handle (the one that is above the airbag) is a spot that keeps peeling. The car is off warranty now, but the dashboard had been replaced twice under warranty. I don't see how it keeps peeling, no one touches that spot and I use a sun shade to protect the dashboard. Is this a common problem?

I have seen it fairly often, it's in a few different spots on my dad's '99 Sierra, one of those being above the airbag beside the handle as you described. It also has just under 320,000 km's on it (almost 200,000 miles) so the interior has gone a long ways.

I have a spot in exactly the same place which started peeling about 2 months ago. '99 with 84,000 miles.

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone, I thought somebody gouged it with something.

Is the gray peeling off in a thin layer exposing the black underneath?

The thing I don't understand is how it keeps peeling in exactly the same place. It is always parked in shade and no one touches it.

Yes, the black is exposed but the spot doesn't seem to be growing in size yet.

I bought a dash mat so I wouldn't have to look at it... I think I hate the dash mat worse... maybe I'll take it off and just deal with looking at the peelings dash. Mine is right above the radio where the previous owner put his/her hand when changing stations.

I have a 99 silverado that is peeling on both sides of the grab handle, mine started on the right side of the grab handle right after the bumper to bumper warranty expired .I now have 88,000 on my truck i try real hard to take care of the int. but this problem totally sucks especially like rogues that does it again and again after being completely replaced .Maybe gm needs to go 70ish again to solve this this paint peel but we might have to live with a crack down the center of our dash if they do that.however that is probably the biggest gripe i have on the inside is my fisher price dash

I have a tan dash that was doing the same thing. I bought the adhesion promoter with the GM matched paint and just finished painting it yesterday. It looks brand new now and all it cost less than 25 bucks to do.

please tell me in detail what you used and how exactly you do it?would love to fix mine.Iwas told by the dealer they had a repair shop that would "dye" the spots on my dash!!!

Mine looks really bad and it takes away from the whole look of the car interior. This is the best GM I have had in a long time. When I got rid of my 79 Ford Fairmont (red paint ran down driveway, air conditioning broke. too little power in engine) at 76,000 miles I got an 81 Caprice and a few years later bought a 1985 Caprice. The 81 had problems and the 85s engine almost literally blew up after paying thousands to fix its overheating problem. GM seems to not have much quality control. ALl the exterior plastics on my Suburban are faded, the front license plate bracket fell off, and now it is losing a lot of oil... Maybe another Ford is in my future, my Taurus has been treating me well enough for 10 years.

Sorry for the rant but I am just a little angry. Do you think GM would do anything again with the dashboard if I talked to corporate and showed it has already been repalced twice?

Where did you buy the stuff to do that? How did you go about doing it?

Id be interested in more info on this adhesion promotor and the GM matched paint.

Mine is peeling just to the right of the grab handle also.........and to think I always blamed it on my dog putting his paw there when he looks out the window!!! I should have known it was GM and not the dog.
