1987 Suburban gas tank question

I have an '87 with a 350 4x4 A/C and auto trans.

 

What size gas tank does it have?

 

I ask beause I was told it likely has a 30+ gallon tank but it seems like a 20ish tank is more likely. I say that because I typically try to keep it above a 1/4 tank but while driving it across country I got it down around 1/8 or just below and I think it took like 16 gal at the most, may have been less, but no more than 16.

 

Obviously the gas gauge could be off...any ideas?

Well, I think it depends what options your truck has. My parents 1990 Suburban has the trailering package and all that, and has a true 40 gallon fuel tank...I know because it went empty and we put 40 gallons into it.

That is kinda what I thought but everyone keeps saying..."that has to have a 30 gallon tank" I agree with you but I am assuming there is a code or something that will tell me.
