WTF!!? Evap solenoid $$$$$$

So my truck throws a 0449 code which is a voltage difference at the evaporative valve solenoid. No problem, read a few posts about it, phone up the dealer for the new part. Partsguy says there are quite a few different ones, needs the vin # to confirm which is for my truck, figures its around $90 for valve, hose, and bracket. Call back with the Vin and he narrows it down to 2 part numbers, valve only. One is $30, the other is $430!!!! Can't tell which one I need. He says one is rectangular and the other is described as solenoid with round valve. Great I think, with my luck it'll be the round one on my truck, so I say I read that there was an updated part for that, and he says Oh ya, the second looks like the updated part. So of course I buy the $30 one, which is identical to the one on the truck, replace it, problem fixed. Neither of us could believe that you could go from a $30 part to $430 (cdn), I know the updated part is supposed to have a replaceable filter or something but $400!! Come on! I may go back and buy another $30 one in just case they stop making them.

My '04 throws a 442 code and the dealers says it is the evap solenoid. He told me 30 bucks to fix. So when i finally get around to having it done he tells me the part is the expensive one - 300 bucks. I said reset the code and leave it as I was getting front brakes and a wheel bearing done. I wanted to keep my bill under $1000.00 bucks LOL. Anyway as the mechanic is doing my brakes he says a cavalier solenoid for 30 bucks should do the trick. He will figure out what I need and my truck will be the guinea pig

the updated solenoid is a kit that alows you to relocate your filter part of the solenoid to a better location as not to fill it up with dirt or water etc.
