Major Gaurd Warranty

Anyone have any Idea or experience with GM major, value, or basic Gaurd warranties? I'm looking for how much they cost and if any of you suggest it. I have a 2004 Suburban Z71 whose warranty is going to be up in a couple of months.

do your homework before buying one of these. They are not cheap. I had one for a mercedes and it was $2200 or so. One good thing was they paid the dealer directly by credit card the day of the service (after approval of coarse)so i never had to lay out any money. Think about what you can reair with $2200????

You have a good point. I can do most of my own repairs, thats why I stick with trucks because they're easier to work on than FWD cars. And with $2200 I could buy an engine for that. I have a buddy who just put a 6.0 in his 2001 sierra for about that. If I ever needed to do that I could just get his help.

We had the value guard on our 99 GMC Safari, and only had to use it twice. The first time, the alternator went out, and left us stranded out near Palm Springs. It is supposed to cover rental car too, but we didn't get it, because we would have had to pay up front, and then be reimbursed once they decided if the repair was covered under the warranty.

The second time, the crankshaft position sensor needed to be replaced. The final bill came out to $198, which was $2 less than the value guard's deductible, so we didn't even need to use it then.

If you're somewhat handy, I would recommend not getting it. A lot of people recommend taking the money that you would have spent on the warranty, and setting it aside in an interest bearing account, in case you need to make any repairs later.

I purchased the major guard the day I bought the pickup and the cost was about $1100. I know the cost is more if you don't purchase the warranty when you buy the vehicle, but that may have changed. I am good for 60 months or 75,000 miles. I have 31,000 right now and haven't needed to use the extended warranty yet, just the regular warranty.
