Several HVAC Problems

Recommended Posts

Posted

Within the last two weeks, two parts of my HVAC system have acted up in my '96 K1500 Silverado. The first is my fan, it started to squeek on any speed setting. I have taken it out and am looking at it wondering if there is a way to lube or fix this problem without buying a new one?

The second it my windshield defroster. The right side has a "limited" amount of air moving through it on the high setting while the left side as almost none. While on any setting it makes a nasty sound as if a high volume of air is moving through a small opening.

I have searched past topics for quite awhile now and am in need of some help. Does my truck have acuators (sp?) or mechanical crontrol rods for the flaps that control air movement? Whichever one it has, where would they be located so I can have a look at them. (the last thing I wont to do is take apart most of my dash if I don't need to) Second, I do not believe my vehicle has a cabin filter, but just wanted to make sure.

A side note: it has been about 0* here for the better part of Feb. so I am wondering if some of this is mearly due to the cold.

Thanks for reading this long post, but the last thing I want to do is to go into a dealer not knowing anything and get roughed over. - Andrew

Well, I went out again and listened and I can hear the actuators moving. And they appear to be coming from under the radio. So forget that question :banghead:
