What kind of "real world" fuel mileage are you folks getting?

 

Please post city and hiway fuel mileage along with the miles on your vehicle.

 

 

Also, can you run "regular" gas in the 07 Denali?

I only have a couple thousand miles on it but around town I get from 12.3 to 13.5, and that is if I'm not taking off at every light. Highway is better at anywhere from 15 to 18mpg. The highway one is harder to tell yet because I haven't done a lot of extensive distance in it yet.

 

The book tells to use the good stuff at the pump. I've tried both without much difference in performance. The most annoying thing is that the tank light comes on when you only have five gallons left in the shorty Denali. Spec. on the tank is 26 Gal. Seems like I'm always at the pump but I still wouldn't trade the engine for another. The 6.2L engine has some balls to it and it likes to drink gas by the bucket full when your on it. Using the manual shifting with the six speed tranny makes this truck seem way more then it seems and it takes off like a rocket. The six speed is smooth as silk, the same with the brakes.

 

I have been using the better gas because its only a few cents more per gallon. If I wanted great gas milage I would have bought a Hybrid that weighs about a 1,000lbs. If you like the big SUV and want to have some power to move it, this set up is the only way to go.

 

By the way. My wife took it grocery shopping last weekend and when she returned home all the things she bought were everywhere. She said the truck was fun to drive. Guess so by the looks of the food she bought!

My dad's denali is getting about 14-15 around town, and anywhere from 16-18 on the interstate. It's all in the gear ratio's!!. the 6sp with the 3.42's make for some real low rpm highway running. However it sucks when you ride with cruise on, because it down shifts on every little hill you hit. But the thing will flat out fly and we always run regular petro. The absoulte biggest contributor to mpg is rear end ratio. Between me and my dad we've owned 4 avalanches 2 with 3.73, 1 with 3.42 and one with the 4.10's. 4.10 av got around 14-15mpg avg, the 3.73 about 16-17, and the 3.42 avy consistently gets 18-19. Good thing about the 4.10's is you don't have to worry about downshifting when you hit a hill "or a mtn for that fact."

That's actually a little better MPG than I am getting with the Tahoe with 3.73's, and right much better HWY mileage than my 05 Denali.

 

I was shocked when I drove one the other day and the AVG MPG on the DIC was 5.6.

I went back to that dealer and drove another Denali and reset the DIC this go round, and drove 60% HWY and 40% CTY and it was reading

18.5 MPG AVG so that made me feel much better! Both cars had only less than 60 miles.

 

I also noticed that the second one I drove had GM aftermarket wheels and Goodyear 20's and rode 10 times better. I don't know if it was a tire pressure issue on the first truck, the different tire brands or what, but when I got out I commented to the salesman that the truck rode MUCH better with the stock 18's and he said they were 20's! I looked and sure enough they were. Both cars had less than 60 miles.

So now I am fretting over THAT issue!

 

I am close to pulling the trigger because I just can't get that 6.2 and 380/417 out of my mind..... LOL!

 

 

Now to get up on my soapbox.........I am SICK AND TIRED of the automotive press and others that test and review vehicles in the print and electronoc media.

 

ALL of the quotes and comments on the Denali's and other GM full size SUV's fuel mileage is refered to as POOR, AWFUL, ABYSMAL....etc

 

The FULL size GM SUVs get as good and in several cases BETTER fuel mileage than the the likes of other full size SUVs such as the Infiniti QX56, Toyota Sequoia, Nissan Armada.....but these "favorite sons" of the automotive press NEVER get beat up like GM does on fuel mileage.

WTF is up with that?!

I agree with you fully on the import "nice" reviews. Even with this 6.2 L motor I still get better gas milage then I did with the Expedition.

Yes Denali's can run 87 octane. Escalades need 91 octane to make the extra 21 hp (403 vs 380). I have a 2007 Denali XL. I have not reset mpg readout in 300 miles (truck only has 1100). I drive a 50/50 mix city highway with a light foot and I'm getting 15.8 mpg. Better than I expected. I used to have a 2004 H2 and could not crack 11 mpg. The Denali is getting 50% better mpg! Also had a 2004 Avalanche that never cracked 14 mpg overall. I got the Avalanche after 6 months of owning the H2. G.M. bought the H2 back from me due to problems. They were great about it thats why I have bought more of their products.

I'm glad the fuel grade question came up. I've had my 2007 Denali XL about a week and have just over 400 miles so far. Getting about 14.5 avg. so far with city and very little highway driving. The owners manual states regular grade fuel with at least 87 octane. There is no recommendation to use premium fuel but it seems every article you find on the subject, including the US government's own official fuel economy web site says premium. My point is if the the truck makes its rated power with quality regular fuel there is no point in running premium. I already have 2 other vehicles that require premium and was hoping for a break.
