Anyone done this to their truck?

Has anyone installed an aftermarket leather seat kit in their truck (not factory installed)? I'd like to hear from GMT-900 owners, but older body style owners are fine too! If you have installed a kit in your truck, where did you buy it, and how has it held up?

Thanks!

I know a guy who did it to his 01 or 02 EC. He used katzkin. (spelling???). He said they were great and held up fine. Not sure if he did it himself or not.

I've seen nothing but good results from most aftermarket jobs, and at the same time, it's also usually higher quality leather than OEM--and with a lot more options to choose from, both in colors and extra trim. I also know a few people who have done it with new '07 Avalanches, and according to what they've said, even doing it yourself is easier on the new ones than before.

What would be the best leather color to insert into my two-tone seats? I was thinking silver. I have an SLE all-ebony interior right now. I want black, but what else??? What are the other interior colors? No one seems to know their name.

Thanks.

I got a sample book of Katzkin leather today. I found an ebony match, but what insert color should I do? None of their colors are a match to my silver accents or headliner. I think I'm going to go with "check corp" GM licensed seat heaters.

What do you think?

A friend of mine has had it done for $600.- on his newly bought Suburban LS. I told him I don't belive it is going to be good. As I saw it my jaw just dropped. Like or better than factory OEM. All the stiches staight like an arrow, top quality two tone leather. :driving:

He has had it done at a local upholstery shop in the LA area.

Well, ya!!! The factory "leather" is cheap poorly stiched thin, top dyed, 10% leather/ 90% vinyl. The Katzkin is fully dyed, thick, rich, high quality 90% European leather / 10% vinyl. I don't think I'd order "leather" from the factory even if I could.

Also, I highly doubt that your friend did 3 row of seats in leather for $600!! The leather alone costs that much just for one row.

I put a Katzkin kit in my '02 extended cab two years ago. It has held up great. I would also like to say that I think the Katzkin leather is much better than the factory leather. Plus, from the factory, the rear seat in the extended cab trucks is vinyl, but it is all leather with the Katzkin kit. The thing I like best is the smell!
