Gettin' new tires?

I talked to a guy on the phone tonight that buys and sells new take off tires.  I really want a set of Michelin LTX M/S tires for my HD in the 265/75/16 size load range "E".  These tires will give me almost 400 lbs more carrying capacity than the stock Firestone Steeltex 245/75/16 tires.  Plus they will fill up the wheel wells more and they shouldn't be too drastic of a change that I will need to reprogram my computer.

I should be able to swap out my tires and have these tires mounted and balanced for about $400 total (maybe less) .  I think that is a great deal, because my local Michelin dealer wants $195 each mounted + tax....

I think Michelin makes a great tire, that I should get a lifetime worth of use out of.  My truck just turned 1 year old and has 5200 miles...

Shaners I went with BFG MT KM's 265/75/16 and I love em.

Didn't have a real need for a mud tire but I wanted somthing more aggressive than the AT for snow and what-not.

I am going to get my computer reprogramed because I have noticed a difference in low end tourqe and shift points. I used to be able to set my cruise at 60 and walk up some pretty steep hills around here without it shiftting down on me. Not anymore. You may not have this problem with your different set up. You would know better than me.

Back to the tires. When I got mine the guy told me they were a "sticker blem" meaning they had an appearance defect. Neither one of us could find it so I bought em'. I traded my 245 firestone's in with 3800 miles and got these mounted and balanced for $238. You might want to check into something like this. I'll try and get some pictures later today and send them to ya.

Wow Shaners!........ You need to get out more. Hee Hee. I have 15K on my 2001 purchased last October. I get out.......a lot!

hogger999-I noticed the same thing on mine when going to 245/D's. No loss in fuel milage. I went with BFG Long Trails. Pretty good tire, but doesn't have the traction of the BFG AT's in wet weather. But they AT's threw a lot of gravel and slight road noise. It still looks a little "un-proportional" with the LT's. Maybe 285's next time, in about 65K. I haven't heard anything about wet weather traction on the Michelins, but they do have a nice aggressive looking tread pattern. Only down side I can think of on the take-off's is it might be a little hard getting a "Road Hazzard" warranty if you wanted one.

My BFG's came with road hazard. I can go get the info if you want details. My tires do have a little road noise but it is minimal. They are nowhere near as load as the Cooper or Courser mud directionals I've had.

As far as a good looking tire goes. I think the Pirelli Scorpion AT looks bad a$$. I've only seen pictures and don't know of anybody that has had them. So who knows :ehh:

Unfortunatly my truck has almost 9K since It I got it new on Valentine's day
