GM fullsize truck reliability: how do they compare?

In late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research. I'm reporting absolute stats like "times in the shop" that will make the differences between cars much clearer. Relative ratings obscure too much--how large is the difference between "better than average" and "worse than average"? I’ll also be updating results four times a year, so there will be information on new models sooner.

Unfortunately, I must admit I've been neglecting fullsize trucks, and not making much of an effort to get enough of them to start collecting data. A staffer at a large GM forum asked how close I was getting to my minimum sample with the GMT900 SUVs the other day, because he wanted to see results on these. Turns out that when the Chevrolet and GM owners are added together I'm not far from the minimum for some years.

So I'm trying to make up for my past neglect and get started on these. All I need are more owners signed up.

To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results free of charge.

Comments, questions, and suggestions welcome.

A second part of the site provides pricing information. I have info in that database for the SUVs, but not for any pickups (unless you count the Avalanche, Hummer SUT, and other quasi-pickups). Few people have expressed an interest in pickup pricing, and entering the data for all those combinations would be a ton of work. But if interest in such info picks up I'll have to reconsider leaving them out.

Thanks. Anyone who wants car buyers to have a better, alternative source of vehicle reliability information, this is how to make it happen.

Still looking for more GM trucks, and GM everything for that matter.

The largest group so far: 78 2007 Saturn Auras. So there will be results for that model in a few weeks.

Also 63 Acadia/Outlooks. Information on those in August.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Hopefully I'll be able to provide initial results for some model years in August. It all depends on how many owners participate.

Getting close. Whether I have results for some of these trucks in August will come down to the response rate and how many more owners sign up and participate in the next couple of weeks.

The responses have been coming in, but so far I'm three responses short of being able to post even an asterisked result for the 2007 in August. More participants would certainly help.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

I hope to include at least the 2007 in the next set of results. Also collecting data on the 2004 so far, and other years are getting close to the minimum needed to get started.

The 2007 GMT900s will be in the next set of results, though probably with an asterisk for insufficient sample size. Need four more responses to get rid of the asterisk. So if you signed up but haven't yet responded, please do so.

And if you haven't yet signed up, your participation could make all the difference the next time around, with the February results. I hope to also include additional model years in those.

Next update soon. Very much hoping to get rid of that asterisk.

I recently added a Common Auto Repairs Database (CARDb) to the site. People posting common repairs can include a link to a forum thread discussing the problem. I hope this will make it easier for people to find this information, while helping to grow the forums that have been lending a hand with the research.

It's looking like there will be a full result for the 2007 this time around, with no asterisk. Currently we're just two responses short of the mark, with over half the month to go. Thanks, guys.

We're still working to include more model years in the survey. And even for those years that are included, more participants would be very helpful.
