Hey guys - just want to your opinions as to which shocks to buy for my 2500HD. Most people on this board lean torwards the Bilstein and that what I was going to go with, but there are a few other shocks out there and I would like your opinions on.

The reason is Advanced Auto has their Monroe shocks on sale right now and I can buy the Gas Magnums for 150.00 for all 4 corners or the Rancho 5000's for 164.00. The Bilsteins are 240.00 - and I need to special order them from AutoZone.

So are the Bilsteins worth approx 100 bucks more then the Gas Magnums ??

Just looking for reassurance about the Bilsteins or Pros for the Gas Magnums ??

Thanks

I replaced the front shocks on my '00 1500 with monroe reflex shocks about a year ago and I noticed a slight improvement in handling (tighter in the corners) and no draw-backs...

I have used every shock model that Rancho makes on various vehicles, and have found them to be durable and best bang for the buck. I replaced the RSX with Bilsteins on the wifes Burban and am very pleased. It depends on how much $100 is to you. If you're old like me, a C note is not that big of a deal to get the best. The Rancho is a fine product and will serve you well, Bilsteins seem a little better, worth $100? Only you can answer that.

I just ordered some Rancho RS9000's for my ride. I got the them from Sam's Offroad. It is a 4 for 3 deal, the cheapest price I could find. $223.00 for 4. Kind of expensive but I have a hevy camper and they are supposed to be the ones for this application. 9-way adjustable.

I have the monroe gas shocks on the rear! I like them alot!

I have the Monroe shocks all the way around on my 2003, 2500 4wheel drive diesel. I don't really do any rough 4 wheeling, and have been quite satisfied with these shocks.

I ended up puting the Bilsteins on my truck - glad I did - really nice shock - a little rough but work really well when towing.

I haven't replaced my stock shocks yet, but when I do, I'll probably go for Bilstein or Rancho.

Had Rancho 5000 on my Dodge diesel and they really sucked! I replaced them 4 times over the past 6 years because the bushings would fall apart or the shocks would just give out. I just don't think that they are designed for heavy duty trucks.

I recently put the Monroe Reflex shocks on my front end. I know they're not "heavy duty" shocks, but I don't do much towing or off-roading, so I wanted a softer ride. I'm satisfied with them.

I've used the Rancho RSX9000 shocks on my 2500HD for about a year. I like the adjustability - hard for towing to minimize bounce, light for around town.

I'm not sure this really counts as an answer. I bought my 1999 2500 ext cab 2500 with "Air Lift" air bags. I haven't a clue what kind of shocks I have on the truck. Not really sure how many lbs of air to put in the air bags.

On the otherhand, my 1994 z/28 6 speed has the Biltein Tuned Suspension kit: Bilstein Shocks and stiffer shorter springs. My Camaro sits an inch lower, looks squat & cool, corners flatter & better & rides like my truck. Chevy did a good job of hiding the solid rear end, Bilstein lets you know you have a rigid axle.
