Heated Mirrors

I have a 2001 Chevy Suburban with heated mirrors that do not work when the rear defroster is on. We had the truck since new, and as far as I know they have never worked. The first few years there was no need for them, so I never noticed. Checked the fuses. Any ideas on this?

Typically the heating element in the mirror glass is the failure. You can get just the glass in most cases.

Do your mirrors have a small 'defrost' icon on the glass ? (they're just symbols and do not light up).

If no, then you don't have heated mirrors.

 

As ryank1 posted, you can get just the replacement glass. The glass is easy to remove. Check out this website, they sell replacement glass (if you want to add the turn indicators). The 'instructions' will describe how to remove the glass.

Yes there is the defrost icon there. Is there a way to check if there is power going to the mirrors?

REmove the glass and pull the wire for the heated mirror and put a voltage testor on the wires. (don't forget to turn on the defrost button).
