Yet another oil question

I am going to be switching to a full synthetic at the next oil change. I did a search on the forum and most everybody talks about mobil 1. Some are good comments and others are bad. The manual states I should stick with 5w30 but I am thinking heavier because of the tick/tock gremlin that has taken residency under the hood.

 

Which Synthetic brand do you prefer?

 

Do you use either 5w30 or 10w30?

I used 5w30 mobil1 in my '98 and I love it, i'm changing my '02 over to it next oil change

I run the 0w-30 weight. Next would be the 5w-30. Mobil 1 is a good oil but due to cost they went from a group VI PAO oil down to a group III. Cheaper for them to make but since they didn't reduce their price they are now making more profit. Most that have run it love it. Some LS1 engine owners have commented on it's thinner qualities and the noise you hear can some times not go away, each individual experiences different results. You can always give it a try and see if it works for you. Otherwise for the same group III oil but at a better price, Pennzoil Platinum is a good choice. Others to consider are Royal Purple, Redline and AMSOIL.

I agree with 02, couldn't have said it any better myself. So I won't. I have had great experiences with Amsoil, I was completely sold after finding how much smoother the shifts in everything from manual transmissions in trucks to my motorcycles got after 5 minutes of using Amsoil. Reduced operating temps in my bikes also, a great product line.

I use 10w-30 Penzoil Platinum.

 

I used Mobil 1 10w-30 prior to this, but the Penzoil is just as good and costs less so I switched.

 

I think the most important thing is use a good oil (what ever brand ya want) and keep it changed.

Take a look Shell Rotella T synthetic, one of the best oils out there
