My Brake Controller Install Article

I just picked up the Tekonsha P3 and I was considering putting it just above where you did into the empty space in the dash where you have your 12 volt plug sitting. What was this space designed for? Is there anything I have to worry about hitting (electrical) by putting self taping screws in this area? The P3 has a convenient snap on /off mounting bracket {not sure if it is to make it more convenient to swap between vehicles or just to keep it from being stolen when not in use} But I think I can catch 2 screws up in this area, bring the wires up through the back/ bottom and still have access to the "manual knob" on the bottom of the P3 to judge the appropriate power settings, and it will be less of a reach to set / adjust the controller.

What appeared to be a no brain-er has gotten more complicated. Here are pictures of my under dash connector block and the diagram on the inside of the cover. Mine is a 2006 Silverado 2500 HD Dmax. If I am reading the diagram correctly the brake controller should go in the Trailer 6 way spot, top level 2 over from the left (but there is already a plug in there. ( I tried to plug it into the spot all the way over on the left top and the other open 6 way top, 2 over from the right (wont fit in either) I have tried both the GM plug and the Tekonsha made for GM trucks neither fit. Any help would be appreciated
