I was given this truck with a blown engine and i was wondering what other engines can go in besides the 2.2L bolt in and lets say just change the ecu if its that simple.I was wondering if it was possible to put a newer GM engine 99-2001 for example and how hard would the difference in wiring would it be.

And since iv never really been a fan of 4cyl pickups aether i would like to install the v6 that goes with this truck or find a supercharged 2.2L if its possible.I'm new at gm i don't know them too well so if anyone knows what i would have to look for to do the engine installs let me know thanks.

Search the internets for V8 S10, there are TONS of kits, makers of parts to put small blocks, big blocks, LS1's, fords, Hemi's...into those bodies.

also a book made by "jaguars that run" on v8 s10's is very good information.

Abandon all idea's of a supped up 2.2 4banger, no reliability.

The V6 in those trucks is the 4.3L which is around 190 Hp stock depending on the generation. that engine is the same as the 350(5.7), just with two of the cylinders cut off. As for V8 swaps, they are extremely popular and it wouldn't involve much more to put a V8 in instead of the 4.3 V6 seeing you are starting from scratch. If you really want better performance the 350 is the way to go if you ask me. I had a '89 S-Blazer that i was considering getting a V8 put in but couldn't justify it because i was on a fairly strict budget and it didn't quite justify it at the time. instead i just put vortec heads, headers, cam, and lifters among other things and it seemed to work out pretty well. as for the tranny, i don't know about the stick-shifts, but the automatic would be the same 4speed auto that is in full size trucks(4l60E). S10 Forum is a good site for all that stuff, there's even a V8 specific section there for you.

Hope this helps.
