99 Yukon Accident

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 99 Yukon that my wife got into an accident with. She ended up rearending someone.

At first glance its looking like a fender, bumper, hood, Radiator, Condenser, some break lines, a couple bumper mounts, a tire, the fan, a front piece, and lights.

I have a couple of questions though. By the look of how bent the Condenser is, I thought the A/C was punctured, so when I started taking the Condenser off you can see where it started blowing refrigerant out on me. I locked it down, but how much is it going to cost to get someone to come recover it?

Here is a pic of the Condenser.

And here is a picture of where it was blowing refrigerant out.

This is where I'm going to need at least one brake line. How bad is air in the ABS module that I pulled off going to be?

Also here you can see the plug for the computer is cracked. I can get an new one and put it on, but the green seal is still intact. Do you think I need a new one?

Here are the rest of the pictures if anyone wants to take a look. Let me know what you think. I'll keep everyone posted with progress

Thanks

How fast was she going ? What type of vehicle did she hit ?

My company would charge you about $200 to come out and recover the refrigerant from your truck.

You should just bleed it off, it's the new 134a refrigerant and is not harmful to the ozone layer.

That's why they sell it off the shelf to anyone, you don't need EPA certification to buy it like you did with R12.

She wasn't going that fast, she hit a guy about 100ft from an intersection she was stopped at before making a right turn.

She hit a 97 Silverado. They met bumpers and the Yukon went down so his truck wasn't badly damaged at all, and my SUV took a bumper to the face.

I'm doing ok on it, but I've run into a snag. the top Condenser line won't come apart. I've gripped the Aluminum part as hard as I can with a pair of Vise-grips and its just obliterating the fitting. I could really care less about the fitting, I just don't want to mess up the steel nut and line. That, I'm sure is more expensive to replace. Anyone have any suggestions? I've tried WD40, and I've tried super heating it with a small butane tortch. I was hopeing the different metal types would expand/contract at different rates and break it loose, but it did'nt help at all.

I also just realized I put this in the HD Fullsized truck, instead of the Light Duty where it should be.

If anyone can move it that would be great... thanks

Have you taken it anywhere to see how out the frame is? I looked at the pictures you had posted and I would be surprised if there isn't any work that needs to done down below.

As for your connector. There are two ways to deal with it. If it looks like it's making a good seal with mating connector and its not in a high water area (most of the sealed connectors aren't rated for immersion anyway, they're more dust seals than anything) you could probably get away with wire tying them together. The other method (if you have the patience) is to order a new connector (delphi connectors are actually really reasonably priced, just try to avoid the dealer if you can) and you could take a bit of time and carefully remove the pins and transfer them to the new connector. No need for a new harness though.
