Question About Exhaust Pipes

My '05 2500HD with the gas 6.0L has 3" factory dual exhaust going into the stock DI/DO muffler, at the end its y piped and exits single, I want to cut the tip & muffler out and put a si/do origional 40 series Flowmaster in its place, with a 3" inlet & 2.5" outlets then run dual pipes out the back side exit with 4" tips. I was just wondering, since the origional 40 isn't available di/do, y piping the pipes and installing the 40 and running the tips as mentioned it will still sound good right? I do not want any poping at all, i hate that lol. If anyone has done this to their trucks with dual pipes are you happy with it? and does it sound nice without any popping? I would go with two si/so mufflers but i'm kinda on the cheap side of things  and anyways, these stock pipes aren't x piped, so the y pipe at the inlet would do the job of combining the pipe sound like the x pipe would but i'm just concerned if this setup with a single inlet muffler would be ok. thanks for reading.

Thanks for your reply. I have a SI/SO Super 40 2.5" never used, I was going to put it in my F150. Do you have the DI/DO Super 40? if so do you like it? Reason I was considering the original 40 was because of its sound, I heard a clip of it on an Avalanche and wow it sounded great. Thing is, the original 40 is only available as a SI/DO so thats why I was going to consider y piping the dual pipes, then muffler, then exit duals. I know about the original 40s drone, I dont mind drone that much, I like being heard and sounding deep. Especially when I take off slowly, I take off 3,000rpms to be heard good and that keeps my mpg down :P

Since the DI/DO Super 40 is only available in 2.5" inlets I guess they would need the adapters, not really a problem, I just hope its deep & loud, I was worried on my F150 it would have been too quiet ( stock 4 cats & 2.5" pipe though ) So is the Super 40 the best way to go? I'm after a real deep growling and aggresive sound. Thanks.

I'm getting si/so super 44's for my truck. I'm just stock right now...But I have heard a lot of guys with 40's around here and they're freekin loud. they rumble nice at idle and crusing but screem under acceleration.

44's are suppose to be louder and deeper.
