Looking to buy new plugs and wires among other things... where are the best prices?

NGK plugs/MSD wires or compareable.

Not sure if it's the cheapest way to go but I prefer my local NAPA or Carquest dealer. Remember, you can probably get tune-up parts at Korea-mart but you get what you pay for.

Napa, O'Reilly's, Autozone ect will all have NGK plugs. Cheapest I found was O'Reilly's with TR55 @ $1.59.

As far as MSD wires you can try Jeg's @64.99.

I get my plugs at Advance or Autozone. Currently I am running Autolite Platinums. I need to change plug wires soon.

Good point about cheapest... I could burn the difference in price in gas looking around. I was just looking for a fair deal and good service. Autozone has the Bosch, and NAPA doesn't look like they have MSD or any comparable wires.

Josh, I am and have been employeed by CARQUEST for over 18 years so I think you know what my answer would be. However, you may not have a CQ store in your community.

I would agree with your choice of NGK plugs as your 2003 likely had them installed at the factory. You cannot go wrong with NGK. On the wires, MSD's are ok but it is my understanding they are now importing a lot of their product. After researching this, I elected to go with Taylor Powervolts 8.2s. American company with American product and their customer svc was great. I bought them through a local speed shop that beat any on line price I found. He also services a ton of Dirt Track guys and he said they have better luck with Taylors than MSDs. I know a lot of guys on here have MSDs and they are great wires and you would never have any issue with them either.

Why did I not use CQ wires? I wanted Red wires and we do not offer them. Our Premium line of wires is supplied by Prestolite who is the largest OE supplier in the country. They are great quality and if you are not looking for red or blue wires, I would tell you that you could save yourself a few bucks and go back with stock wires. NAPA's wires are supplied by Belden and they too are great quality. I would stay away from the "Big Box" stores for your wires. If you do go to NAPA or one of our stores, tell them you want their "premium wires" because we both offer an economy line as well. They are not bad wires but just not what I would call "premium".

I wanted to get some red or blue wires just for the looks, but I guess I will go with the NAPA wires, as they are pre-cut and I can pick them up today. Thanks for the help guys.

Josh, be sure you request their premium wires. They will likely cost you $10.00 to $12.00 more but they are worth it.

If you want to PM me I can see if you have a store in your area or we have a locator on CARQUEST.com. I try not to "sell product" on this forum but sometimes it simply cannot be helped.

Good Luck.

Dude, use CarQuest, I found their customer service to be better then NAPA with comparable prices.

Thanks, I would like to think this was true in all 3,500 stores. However, as hard as we try to make sure that everyone is "signing the same tune", I am sure we do have some people who get "off key" every now and then.

Thanks for the compliment.

I will add that if anyone ever has a bad experience in any of our stores, we will do all we can to make it right.

    • I am having similar issues.. 08, 4.8L granted I did had a fender bender and minor damage up front passenger side but I don’t think it had anything to do with it.. I had the high and low pressure checked and my fan for my radiator keeps coming on.. replaced the pressure switch and don’t want to keep throwing parts at it. I did have some minor problems here and there like on long road trips sometimes the ac would get a little warm and then on the highway as soon as I give it a little gas or get a little heavier on the petal it started running cooler. Never had an issue with the ac besides the here and there.. but I also started having issues when I fuel up now it takes a bit to start ( super embarrassing) it runs fine and once started ( only happens after fueling up) starts fine any other time. Could they be related?
    • Spent a small fortune on fuel this weekend.   $6.69 diesel, 18 gallons of that. $6.99 92-octane ethanol free, 10 gallons of that for yard machines $5.59 87-octane for one of the cars, 11 gallons.   $250+ and I didn't even get a tug.   Hormuz ain't Hormuzin again, did not see that coming...LOL
    • Appreciate the advice. I've watched multiple videos. Most showing the most complex for those that have a center console, to one that showed maybe 2 pieces of trim being removed, like 6 screws, pulling back the screen and switch assembly, and installing the inline module. And this was a new/newer Silverado. That didn't look too bad. All the others show alot of trim pieces that need to be removed. I've broken those kind of tabs/clips on my C8 Corvette trying to get to the battery, and that was a lot less clips than what I think is involved here after watching multiple videos and looking at my dash today. I have one on the way. Called a reputable stereo place about installing it and got a "minimum" price of $175. Ouch! Looking forward to seeing what the instructions have to say.
    • Hard to say what the issue might be. Anything from the ability to cool the AC condenser up front, to blend door issues in the HVAC unit, to refrigerant charge, to compressor issues or issues in the lines.   Report back what the techs find on the 29th.   GM has service publications which list acceptable vent temperatures and AC pressures at given ambient temps and humidity. They probably won't touch the system if it's operating within those ranges.   I'm also surprised to hear your 2024 with the L8T is still using R134a? I was pretty sure the HD's had switched to the new refrigerant around 2020.
