vctbmcam Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Had the pickup at the dealer again for a horiible squeking sound in the leaf springs. I had the dealer check them out around 30,000 and all the did was clean and lube. It was great up until about a month ago. Every time I accelerate, stop, go around a curve, or hit a small bump, squek-squek. It got so bad and loud I was driving my Wife's car in the evening. Took it in today and they did the same thing, clean and lube. The are really quiet but to have this done every 5,000 miles is going to get really old. Anyone else have this problem. T
ken1mod Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Gentlemen, Leaf springs suck in all regards but load hauling. They squeak, snap, crackle and pop. That is why they are not used in cars anymore. Unless you have worn out plastic leaf spacers, there is nothing that you can do long term but try to keep them greased. They are subject to road splash and whatever is on the road, making them do all of the above. They do carry a load better than any other suspension. This is why 18 wheelers use them at all corners. This is a tough one and I have experienced it myself. If you want a perfectly quiet suspension, the only option is Buick. You might try to find a product called open chain lubricant, maybe ever chain lube available from motorcycle shops. I have had some success with this. Ken

jaybyrd Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 In the past on an F150 I owned I would pressure washthem to get the dirt out and then use a putty knife and spread lithium grease or all purpose automotive grease on in between the leafs while the rear end was jacked up off the ground. Usually kept things quiet for 6-8 months. Haven't had the issue on the Silverado. Yet.
