Temp Guage Stays On 210 Degrees

The engine temperature guage stays on or very near 210 degrees on my 07 NBS ecsb 5.3l. I do not recall the owners manual addressing normal operating temperature, but if it was after page 500 or so, I may have dosed off. This is about 15 degrees more than my '97 5.7l Silverado. What temperature thermostat do these trucks have? Is this consistant with everyone's temp. reading?

Thanks!

My 07 consistently stays at about 200 degrees which is about 10 degrees more than my 01 silverado. I can't tell you what the acceptable operating range is supposed to be, but around 200 seems ok to me. It must be anyway as my fans don't seem to run that much.

Same here. Needle goes to middle of gauge and stays there. I don't know if this is too hot or not, but I will say it didn't go up even when towing my ~6500# travel trailer with 90F outside temperatures. That seems good to me.

My '07 NBS stays right at 210 degrees as well. My '95 K1500 ran about 15 degrees cooler as well. I was guessing the difference might have something to do with the 2 electric fans on the new ones vs. the old "fan clutch" setup. It still seems hot to me, but I guess it's "normal."

Thanks for the replies. I was actually picturing some obstruction in the cooling system causing this. The thermostat must open at 205 or 210. The high operating temp probably helps to decrease emissions.

When your truck runs over 237F thats when you need to be concerned and with the PCM management you can actually drive your truck without coolant under reduced power without and adverse affects.
