Leds Installed Fast Turn Signal

All,

I just installed LED bulbs all around for my brake lights and turn signals and marker lights. Now, my turn signals flash super fast. I was wondering what needs to be done to slow them down to normal. I was told a resistor would work but I don't know what size or where to install. I've also heard LED load adjusters are necessary. Any ideas???? Thanks

Not sure about our trucks but on the 18 wheelers, alot of times the flasher unit will have to be replaced when switching to LED's. There are flashers that are specifically for LED's.

My turn signals did that when I started towing a boat...I had to go to a bigger flasher & that took care of the problem.

yeah i heard that as well, I will run to autozone and see what we got. So whats the deal with these 'wait4me' tunes? Is that a regional thing or are they all over cause i got a 4.8 as well and I have the Hypertech programmer custom tune. It was an improvement but without tranny mods it wasnt worth the bucks.

my best guess would be a different flash relay. Not sure on one just for led's. Do led's require more power than standard bulbs.

I haven't quite figured that part out about why led's require a different flasher. I do know that LED's require a fraction of the power that regular icandescent bulbs use. Put too many regular lights on a truck & trailer & you will need a bigger alternator, swap all those lights to led's & your regular alternator isplenty to run them.

You answered your own question. LEDs require a fraction of the load that regular incandescent bulbs require. The fast flashing of the LEDs is called "hyper flashing". You can eliminate this cause by three methods. The first one is to solder a 6ohm/50w resistor in line with the LED bulb. The second is to skip the resistor and use a dedicated flasher for the LEDs. Third is to skip the flasher and just buy a LED bulb with the resistor built in.
