Mobil 1 Oil

I have read everywhere that the Mobil 1 oil is no longer fully synthetic but I just read on their site that the Mobil 1 is fully synthetic...here is what it said,

A fully synthetic motor oil, Mobil 1 5W-30 with SuperSyn Technology, is the approved and the first choice of many premium car manufacturers, including Corvette."

What gives? Is this stuff synthetic or not?

Hi,

Same question I posted in maintenance asking about the relatively new Mobil 1 Truck/SUV oil that is designated as "fully synthetic". Anyone know the scoop?

Your post is what led me to the Mobil website...I know the SUV/Truck oil you mention is supposed to be synthetic but it also says the Mobil 1 is full synthetic which I have been reading otherwise on the forums.

im wondering the same thing i had a friend tell me that mobil one is junk because its not really synthetic i dont want to believe him though. and whats the deal with truck and suv full synthetic should we be using this instead of the normal synthetic or is itjust for marketing

Holy cow. Have been researching this for several days and have read literally dozens of web pages. Seem like independent oil dealers, e.g., Amsoil, etc., are the source of much of the Mobil 1 negative commentary. From what I have read, Mobil 1 is as synthetic as synthetic oil gets and it is going into my truck. Actually I got Mobil 1 Truck/SUV 5-30.

Much of my decision rested on my father's experience with Mobil products. He was responsible for production facilities in a large tire factory. Any downtime due to bearing or gear failures caused by lubrication would have been a really big problem. They had preventative maintenance programs and had dialed-in the bearing and gear life to the max. ALL of the oil used was Mobil. No exceptions. They had learned from many years of expensive down time that Mobil was the best.

Whenever I have heard something too good to be true - "the oil you never change", "25000 oil change intervals', etc. my antenna go up. Something tells me it is really bad idea to do that with a truck under warranty!

there is a lot of talk about this lately. I just use Valvoline SynPower and stay away from Mobile and Castrol. Always so much hype about them, I just stick with the good oil everyone forgets about.

I have used Mobil 1 Synthetic for over ten years with no problems whatsoever. I think it is the best readily available synthetic you can buy.

I am no expert on this but from what I have read, Mobil changed their formula not too long ago and went to a cheaper method of producing their syn oil. It is still a full syn from what I can tell but just not considered to be premium anymore.

Please understand, I know just enough about this to get me in trouble. However, if it is good enough for GM to dump into a beautiful $75,000 Z 06, I would think it would be fine for our trucks.
