E 85 Reprogram Notice

if you have not had this done. do it. i do not use e 85 but i have noticed an improvement in my gas mileage and the performance of my 07 suburban with the new program.

Do you have a link for the reprogram notice? And does it apply to 06 pickup trucks?

chevrolet sent me a notice in the mail regarding a reprograming of the computer if i intended to use e 85. the program was supposed to be better able to sense the amount of ethanol in the gas and since all gas here has some ethanol in it i decided to give it a try. i picked up an 07 tahoe and noticed that it ran better than my 07 suburban. (that is why i became interested) the tahoe had the up to date program. i asked them to update my program and it makes a difference in the way the car runs. and the mileage i get.

as stated i do not use e 85 as it is not available here yet. but the suburban accelerates better and has better gas mileage.

take it for what it is worth. i thought i would share

I got the letter in the mail today and I am taking my 06 Silverado in on Thursday for the reprogram.

Got the same letter. In CT they don't yet have E85, but they do mandate 10% ethanol in all gas so I think I'm definitely gonna get it done.

I will try to remember to post any changes in mileage observed.

On a side note, ethanol out here in CT is a joke IMO. They don't have it yet in CT, but E85 in NY costs more than gasoline and reduces mileage. Also the 10% ethanol mandate in CT drives up the price of gas and reduces you gas mileage due to the cost of distribution. They should keep ethanol close to the region where it is made and everyone would benefit (i.e. lower gas prices on the coasts with better mileage and really cheap E85 in the mid-West).

i just got the notice today. i got a 06 ecsb 5.3L 2x4. i could run it on e85 but i can not buy it around here. if could i would try it out. eventually it would be more afforadble, its just soo new i think.

Got my Chevrolet Avalanche reprogram notice today. Scheduled for July 19 and I can give a gas mileage report about a week later. If it is worse, I hope it can be reversed!

Well my dealer is having trouble with the update so they are keeping the truck overnight. On the bright side I have a NBS ECSB Silverado to drive until then. Maybe, they did it on purpose hoping I will buy one lol.

Well , while attempting to do the upgrade the dealer whiped out the ecm. So my truck is out of commission till monday when they get the new ecm in.

Wiped out as in fried it and need a new module? How the hell... never mind.

Hopefully you've still got the NBS to drive around.

Don't feel bad. Needed both the ECM and TCM reflashed several times on my '05 Jeep Liberty diesel. They smoked the computers every time....and still couldn't maintain a data link. Was on my 2nd ECM and I believe 3rd TCM by the time I got rid of that POS.

After that experience, I would be leary about a voluntary reflash.

Atleast I got the NBS to drive around this weekend. I doubt after this I will be quick to take it in for anymore reflashes.

I know the problem was bad enough for DaimlerChrysler that they issued a TSB on the reflash process. It was a piece of work. Must maintain almost perfect voltage on the 12V system for the entire time of the download (over an hour) so DCX wants it hooked to a battery charger. If anything goes wrong during certain critical times (data interruption or a power spike/drop) the EMC is history. Care must be taken so that nothing with a big power draw on the buidling kicks on (such as a shop air compressor or HVAC unit). It was bad enough on my Jeep that DCX shipped new computers with the new software pre-loaded the last time they fried.
