Auto Ride Problem

Does anybody know if I can purchase just the exhaust solenoid. I really do not want to replace the entire compressor, exhaust solenoid, dryer, pressure switch as a complete assembly again.

Also out of curiosity, can anybody tell me the purpose of the exhaust solenoid and when & why it is activated?

Blue Dave. Thanks for the great information and the thought process. I will be following you with mine too. When a heavy load (ie Trailer) is put on the back of the vehicle the ride sensors tell the module to pump up the shocks leveling out the truck. When the load is removed the exhaust valve is triggered to release the pressure and bring the back of the truck down to the correct ride height. I have not been able to find a source either. However if you can get a good look at the solenoid and tell me a manufacture and possibly a part number that is stamped on it I may be able to get them from the supplier. I have lots of friends automotive.

Thanks for the reply!

I found out that the compressor unit (complete assembly with compressor, filter/dryer, pressure switch & exhaust solenoid valve) that I bought in January has a 12 month warranty.

I simply took the unit back to the GM dealer and they gave me a brand new one. I installed it and everything is working properly again. I sure hope that this one lasts longer than the last one.

Where did you find the complete assembly? I ordered my compressor from http://www.arnottindustries.com/ but it did not come with the "filter/dryer". being curious, i took the old one apart and pretty much ruined it. It looked pretty bad on the inside anyway, so wanted to replace that part as well.

The sensors are located near the rear wheels, under the little plastic fender lining toward the front part of the inside of the fender.

It is a little rod that is attached to the suspension on one end and to a rotary device on the other end. as the suspension moves up and down, the rod pushes on the rotary device.

The rotation of the device will determine how loaded your vehicle is.

This sensor then gives the on / off command to the pump in the autoride unit.

PB,

I bought the complete assembly from my local GMC dealer GM p/n 15254590.

Dave,

You have definately gone above & beyond. (Until you took the easy way out! )

So here's my deal. '04 Yukon 80k miles. Compressor quit working. "Service Autoride" shows up the dash. Removed compressor & bench tested without it turning on. Purchased an Arnott aftermarket kit. Reinstalled compressor and "Service Autoride" is no longer present on dash, but compressor still doesn't come on when hooked up to trailer as before. HELP!

I just ordered a pump from Arnott ( thanks for the link FYRCAPTAIN)

Installed it including the dryer rebuild kit and it works great.

Came with all the mounting bolts and rubber bushings.

Arnott is terrific to deal with. I recieved it by UPS in 1 day !!

I have the same problem with my 03 YXL Denali. Took it to the dealer and they said that when it starts making the noise the motor is going out. Replacement is $500 from dealer but have not ordered.

If you fiigure out a cheaper way then let me know.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but have I missed where to even start. I have been reading and can't seem to find it. Where or what do I check first. If I missed it please point me in the right direction. Thanks FF

I have a 2005 Yukon XL Denali. I've got 24's on it. The "Service Ride Control" message has appeared. I am assuming this is the auto ride feature that everyone is talking about. We are at about 80,000 miles which is about where most of you guys say the problems start, 4 years/80,000 miles. While trailing my wife in my car, I noticed something next to the rear driverside tire looking like it was loose but I never really paid it much mind as I am not mechanically inclined. Would this be the three piece unit that everyone here is talking about? Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.
