Another A/c Question

Thanks to everyone that helped me the other day with my question about the A/C on my half ton truck. Now I've got an A/C question on my dually. After all of the rain, we've finally got our hot weather here in Texas, so I guess it's time for A/C issues.

This truck is a '96 C3500 Crew Cab 454. At the back of the compressor on this truck, there is a manifold with the high side and low side ports. When you remove the plastic cap from the high side port, you can hear refrigerant escaping. This can't be normal. Do I just need to change that schrader valve? If so, is it just a matter of unscrewing the old one and screwing in a new one? Is it possible to achieve this without losing all of my refrigerant charge? Will I need to reintroduce oil to the system?

I can generally fix most of the stuff on my truck, but A/C isn't really my thing. It isn't anything that I can't do, but I just need a little knowledge.

Thanks for all the help.

IT IS NORMAL FOR SOME FREON TO ESCAPE THOUGH THE SCHRADER VALVE BUT, YOU SHOULDN'T BEABLE TO HEAR COME OUT...

ALL IT WOULD NEED IS A NEW SCHRADER VALVE, BUT THE AC SYSTEM MUST BE EVAV AND RECHAGED TO DO THE JOB

get a schrader tool first, the valve just might be a little loose. Clockwise to tighten it. OR just tighten the cap down tight with some pipe dope.

You might be able to change the valve out if it needs it, But I dont think you can get one back in because the pressure coming out is too high. Then you would have to do what bobcat says, BUT then youre pretty much screwed because I think you are running R 12.
