Resetting Oil Change Indicator?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I just got my truck about 3 weeks ago and I'm wondering how to reset the oil change indicator that comes on the odometer. Does this go by mileage or does it actually measure the oil quality?

Engine off, key on. Press the accelerator pedal 5 times and it will reset.

The monitor doesn't actually sample the oil, but it is based on way more than the mileage. It is actually quite elaborate and, depending on who you ask, pretty reliable.

Depends on the model (LS or LT). If you have the driver information center (buttons on left side of dash) you press the car with i button until you see the oil life then you press and hold the check mark button.

Oil % is determined by starts and stops, and mileage.

I have the LS model but won't pumping the gas with the key on flood the engine with fuel injection?

No, this is the proper procedure. I actually think it might 3 pumps within 5 seconds, but either way it's fine. If it is 2003 plus it is drive by wire anyway and I'm sure the computer knows not to activate the injectors if the engine is off.
