Busting Speakers

I have a 1500 HD with the CD player but no tape deck. And there is no pattern to it (as far as I can tell), but I had the truck for a little over a year and I have gone through 3 speakers already. I was wondering is this something that those radios are known for or is it just mine. As far as I know the system is bone stock, but without even pushing it it sounds like my suburban did with 2 10 inchers. Any Ideas?

Also I'm considering changing the radio for an aftermarket one and was wondering if there was any difference between the 1500/1500HD/2500/3500 that made a difference.

  I respectfully have to disagree with you here. If I'm stuck and I have a choice between a farmer and a guy with a mechanical engineering degree, I'll take the farmer every time. IMO, experience trumps education and nobody has as much experience at being stuck as a farmer.

  OP put new ones in: Alternator shorting wouldn't cause a lack of power when keying the ignition to accessory or run. You can straight up unplug the alternator and the car would still power up and even start.

  Keep clearing the code and driving it to build more data on circumstances, the problem may become more constant, reveal itself or cause more symptoms that make diagnosis easier.

  Some simple grounds from battery to engine, battery to frame, etc. using jumper cables might yield some clues. Battery condition? Alternator may have internally shorted - pull the power cable off the back if you suspect it.

  I'd have a hard time selling it like this, I think. The CEL is very occasional but I can imagine someone buying this thinking it's going to get them from A to B and then it gives them trouble a few days later. I still need to fix the starter...that's just embarrassing. The front oil weep/leak...well, it's an old vehicle. I'd fix that if it didn't literally involve dropping the front axle or unmounting the engine and lifting it up several inches for access. It can leak for now.
