GM says just a light soapy solution for interior stuff, so I do warm water with a little dish soap. Seems to clean things up well. Don't use Armorall any more.

Outside I use liquid gold car wash.

Biggest PLUS is when had water softener installed...put hot and cold soft water into my garage. Washes up the CC very nicely, thank you very much.

Just had to bring it up, didn't you? My poor truck hasn't been washed in about 3+ weeks and hasn't been detailed in probably 3+ months thanks to this crazy TX weather we're having this summer. :D

Otherwise, I'll normally wash about every week or as needed and full detail at least once a month - as long as its not raining.

I am as anal-retentive as anyone, but waxing once/month (especially with high-quality wax like Mcguires) is a complete waste of time. Twice a year is plenty!!!

With that said, my "detailing" time is nill now, because I got the "Auto Butler" with my new truck....They through it in for $99. Washed, waxed (Paint sealant), interior cleaned, windows cleaned once every 6 months for 5 years. I'd say that was a well-spent $99, wouldn't you?

I personally think my time is well spent and i do have the nicest looking paint of anyone i know so i dont care. i wax my truck when the glossy feel is gone and it doesnt repel water anymore i know my paint is protected atleast.

if you were as anal as me you would do the stupid things i do and wax your truck once a month and change synthetic oil to soon

No doubt. It's rained more here than I can remember. I've probably washed her about twice a week this summer.

Well, admittedly, in 2000, when I was 34 yrs old and had just bought my BLACK 2000 GMC Sierra, I washed it 1-2 times/week and waxed it 3-4 times/year too. The older I got, the less I washed and waxed it. But you know what I learned? The more you wash it, the more you NEED to wax it. After about 2004, I waxed it once in the spring and once in the fall, and washed it much less as well. Then, the last couple years I owned it, I waxed it once/year and washed it much less frequently. This made the wax last longer and guess what? I sold that truck to my brother because he liked it so much because it was so well taken care of. It literally is as shiny and scratch free as the day I bought it. McGuires is GREAT wax, especially the "Gold" series.

My old age and laziness is the ONLY reason I went to Steel Gray instead of Black this time around. It always looks clean, and with Auto Butler, I won't have to wax it until 2012!!! Yippee!!!

As for oil, I am not a synthetic fan, I prefer conventional oil with 3000 miles between changes.

I wash mine every few weeks, I don't drive it that often, but when I do it's for long distances and gets pretty dirty. I also noticed that you wear the wax off early by washing too often, although the spots on the black drive me insane. I don't really stick to any brand of anything...yet. But if anyone knows how to get the pitting off my aluminum rims, it would be highly appreciated. Flitz didn't help a bit.

Mother's Brand aluminum polish. As long as they are NOT clearcoated.

Tried Mother's before Flitz, even got thier fancy balls, niether worked. Not clearcoated. Found out the hard way that you're supposed to protect the rims from Wisconsin winters....

Try Rubbing compound, then polishing compound. Lotsa elbow grease.

I wash it about once a week. I just use plain water and no soap (soap isn't good for the paint). I use anything/everything Zaino sells to keep it looking it's best. My '95 K1500 looks as good as the day I bought it, thanks to Zaino.

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
