06 Cc With 24s And Bad Shaking

yea i have a 2wd 06 crew cab with 10k and it drove great till i put 24s and 305s on it and now it shakes like my rotors have a nascar race on em.....it shakes like all hell.....i got the wheels rebalanced and an alignment and now its worse than before really...before it drove straight after alignment it pulled really hard right....i took it back and they put it back on 4 wheel laser rack and it was right on....i saw my self...so they tried adjusting it left to compensate but it still pulls right and now my right wheel is leaning obviously not straight.....and now when ever you get all over it at about 55 it shakes likes hell no brakes at all????WTF!!!!!

 

i mean i know they are some heavy ass wheels and some big tires but come on can the steering not handle it? its like a tank slapper on a crotch rocket wheely what is going on here

i have read several people with the same complaint but no fixes...one guy talked of a steering damper but were talking trucks here not bikes i dont know of any dampers for trucks?

Sam, I hate to say it and I do not mean to be disrespectful, but your truck was engineered to operate with 16" or possibly 17" wheels and what you have on it now is nowhere near this. You may be able to smooth them out but my bet is it will never drive the way it did. Also, some of the quality or the lack of with these wheels leaves a lot to be desired.

 

I saw a guy with what looked like a brand new Escalade and he had added some really big, and I may add really ugly wheels, to the truck. He was beside me on the Interstate and those things were wobbling like they were missing 4 of the 6 lug nuts.

 

I have nothing against nice wheels, but I am afraid you have carried it too far with the 24s.

I must agree, alot of this can be blamed on lack of research.

 

Those huge rims are designed for looks with absolutely no performance. If you want your stable smooth ride back then back down to something smaller. I would say 20's at the absolute largest.

 

And also it really has nothing to do with the truck itself. The truck was engineered and designed around the stock tire and rim size. By going to such an extreme tire and rim size, it becomes the owners liablity, not the manufacturer.

Take the front wheels off and look for the presences of two of more serrated washers around the wheel studs. These washers are used on the assembly line to hold the rotors on until the calipers can be bolted on. The factory wheels have reliefs in them to fit over these washers, aftermarket wheels typically do not. Pull these washers off with a pair of side cutters and it may fix your vibration problem. They also may be present on the back wheel studs, but I'm not sure.

OK guys for all you haters....this is not the first set of big wheels i have had experience with....my buddy had a tahoe with 24s and it drove just as good with the wheels as without......IT IS possible to have a nice smooth ride on 24s....and for you dyabolical i would rather ride my factory 17s than 20s....frankly i think anyone that puts aftermarket 20s on a fullsize truck is just a p@ssy and is afraid to go bigger.....and how can you blame it on a lack of research? what is that about? and also it really has nothing to do with the truck??WTF it has everything to do with the truck thats what im talking about...are you MR?

Hey Sam, you gotta remeber, it is your truck and you can put 30s on it if you want. However you asked us and we have provided our opinions and advise. I am sure you can get a good ride out of 24s but I still say that many of these larger wheels are junk. The quality control is just no there. Not to say that yours are not a reputable brand. But it is hard to blame the truck when you have added something so radical as 24" wheels to something that was never designed for such.

 

Not sure where the "haters" comes in. I can promise you that you will find a lot of good folks on here that will be happy to help you when we can.
