Trucks In Canada & Us

Anyone ever notice that not all the new trucks are the same. I have noticed a couple of differences. The only thing I can come up with is that its where the trucks are being built. I own a 07 GMC Sierra SLT Crew VMax, its about 6 wks old. I have noticed and had a couple of people ask why I have a slotted front bumper like the HD trucks. The reason being its for extra cooling for the 6.0L. But I noticed alot of Vmax trucks don't have that. Also I have noticed that in the states you can get the Z71 Offroad suspension pkg with the VMax. I factory ordered mine and I could only get the Z85 trailing and & handling suspension pkg, thats what comes with the VMax Pkg. I had to order skid plates as a seperate option. Any one else know any differences in the trucks?

Let me clarify regarding the "high flow" slotted front bumper. Only the Vmax's with the NHT (Max trailering pkg with the 4.10s) get the slotted bumper. The 6.0 Vmax's ordered without the NHT pkg and 3.73s get the standard bumper. They do this due to the high (10,500 lb) towing capacity with the NHT pkg, whereas the Vmax with 3.73s only has a 8500lb towing cap.

Now, I need to explain why my truck has the slotted bumper since it is NOT a NHT, I have the Vmax with 3.73's because I didn't want 4.10s and I wanted the 20" wheels (not available with NHT pkg). Well, my truck came with the std bumper, but a car wash "effed" up my bumper and they paid for the replacement and the dealer ordered the wrong one (which I glady accepted).

I believe it's the same explanation for the Z71's too.

If I am not mistaken, the 07/08 1500 crew cab trucks (Vmax or not) are only built in Oshawa Ontario... I'm thinking your bumper was a running change?!?!?!

My Vmax was built in Mexico. And see my above post regarding the slotted bumper. I know this for a fact, it is NOT speculation.

I don't know if the GMC's are different than the Chevy's, but I have a 6l Z71 on order. The dealers system was a bit screwed up, I think you had to select 18" wheels first, that forces the Z71 option, then you can pick the 6l. I've been waiting 5 weeks, hopefully its in soon.

Keep in mind, there is a BIG difference in options when you choose the NHT Max Trailering Pkg vs the L76 (6.0 liter) option seperately. If you order the NHT pkg, you will get the Z85 suspension, 17" wheels, 4.10 gears. If you order the L76 option without the NHT pkg, you can choose suspensions, wheels, 3.73 rear end, etc.

I ordered the VMAX, and chevy goofed the order and sent a 4.8......I was pissed but I still bought the 5.3 and am happy with it....still wish I had waited for an 08 vmax though., OH WELL!

I would say it's most likely your dealer that messed up the order, not GM. The dealer keys in the options that are then sent to GM where the orders are preferenced at the factory. It is extremely rare that options are messed up at the factory itself. You'd be amazed how organized everything is at these plants.

Heres a post I made earlier on this subject, hopefully its not too confusing.......

On the '07 "GMT900" 1/2-ton trucks you can get the "VortecMax" 6-liter (RPO L76) two ways,Either as a seperate option on the crew-cabs and ext.cabs (short or standard length bed) or its comes as part of the "Max Trailering Package" (RPO NHT) available on crew-cabs and ext.cab (standard length bed only)

When you spec it out as a seperate option you get the "L76" 6-liter along with the "M70" 4L70E "Super-Duty" transmission and the 9.5" rear-end with 3.73 rear-end gears & HD cooling and you can still get the Z71 package or the Z60 suspension with 20" wheels.

When you spec out the "NHT" Max Trailering Pkg. it also comes with "L76" 6-liter,"M70" 4L70E transmission and the 9.5" rear-end & HD cooling, but it also includes the "G80" locking diff. w/4.10 gears in the 4x4 models (3.73 gears in 2wd models) it also comes with the autotrac transfer case on 4wd models, fog lamps,"Z82" trailering pkg.,"Z85" handling/trailering suspension,H.D. rear springs, bigger front sway bar,"slotted" front bumper and Stabilitrak,This package increases towing capacity up to 10,500lbs.

Also 17" wheels are the only wheel size available with the "NHT" Max Pkg.

You'll notice the biggest difference between the two is the fact that with the "NHT" pkg. it comes with 4.10 gears in 4wd models, this is where they get the 10,500lb. towing capacity,If you get the 6-liter as a seperate option you can only get 3.73 gears which is limited to an 8,500lb. towing capacity.
