I have a 97 suburban with a 5.7 engine. It all of a sudden wont start. It did this before then It would sttart like the next day. BUT now It wont start at all. It cranks and I can hear the Fuel pump doing its "whirring" noise wehn Im turning the key.

I checked for spark and the car has spark.......

any ideas as to what can it be?

Might it be the distributor cap?

Ok last night I checked the fuel connection line behind the throttle body. I pressed the little button thing while my friend cranked it and there was a squirt like 2-3 inches high.

We then decided to spary some starting fluid in the throttle body and crank it......but it didnt start either...........

can it still be the fuel pump??

how much pressure is it supposed to have??? do I measure the pressure while im cranking or after priming???

any help is appreciated guys!

It could still be the fuel pump. Just because it is running does not mean it is putting out enough pressure. Check the fuel pressure.

If you sprayed starter fluid in it and it did not start then it is not a fuel problem. Pull off the distributor cap and look at the point under the cap make sure they are not burnt, melted, or worn out. This truck is known for distributor cap problem. You will have spark but with a bad cap spark will jump to the wrong post.

Also look at the distributor make sure you don't see any rust on it any where.
