Pcm Falling Apart?

I have a 99 Chevy Expess Van 2500 with a 5.0 and 118,000 miles and noticed my PCM is starting to oxidize. When I touched the top of the PCM it was so brittle it fell apart in my hands. Now I can't attach the mounting brackets to secure it down because that part of the PCM broke.

Although I did not remove it completely I noticed that the top of the PCM appears to be a "Heat Sink" which is which is the part that is crumbling. So is this item a "1 Piece" unit or is it just the cover for the electronics? I have no choice but to replace it but I'd like to know what others think.

Thanks,

unless it's giving you a problem I would leave it alone, but if you want you go to a junk yard and get one and just swap the outer case that way you will not have to have the dealer reprogam it.

Thanks for the reply. Lately when driving at highway speeds the motor would suddenly "cut out" or miss for a split second and then it would be fine. I'm not sure if it's because the unit is not secured down properly. If it begins to get worse I'll simply change it out for a new one.

Thanks again!

The dealer I work at has a interface module which inables the tech to program the new pcm without the van being there just need your vin. Hope that helps
