Rats! Radio Locked! What To Do?

Recommended Posts

I made the fatal error of changing batteries on my new to me 02 Suburban 2500 and now the radio display reads LOC

I should have known better that the people who had it before me were so picky about every little detail that they took time to set the Theft lock system

Here is my situation.

I just bought it from a local dealership which I have bought 3 vehicles from in the last 5 years.

I know two of the service advisors pretty good, enough so to ask them for help on something like this

I don't want to have to pay $75 to unlock the dumb thing

I suspect that the unlock code was written down in some papers that the previous owner says that the make ready guys threw away from the console before I bought it.

what should I do? What can I do?

Ask your buddies at the dealer, without that code your up chit creek. As for paying for it, that's crazy 3 vehicles in 5 years and this is a recent purchase? That most certainly should/would do it as a courtesy. It's no big problem for them.

No spare keys??? Im not sure if itll work for you or not..but a friend of mine drives a 2001 GMC sierra, and another friend of mine drives just about the same truck (a 2001 GMC Sierra), Ones 2WD and ones 4WD, but the guy with the 2wd can unlock the other guys truck with his key. lol..i know sounds a little crazy..but I watched him do it. If you maybe have a friend with a similar truck you might want to see if it works..Hey its worth a try lol...Good Luck.

I ripped my stock radio out and put it back in let it sit for a year and put it back in and never got a radio code. If your a loyal customer at your dealer maybe you can try to con them into a free unlock lol

Have you CARFAXed to see if it was stolen. If that turns out ok , you should park in front of the dealers door step till they fix your problem. Good luck.

You could try this:

Theftloc Bypass

1. Press and hold presets 2 & 3 for about 10 seconds until the first 3 digits of the display code are displayed

2. Write the numbers down.

3. Press the AM FM button, write down the next 3 numbers

4. Call 1-800-537-5140, when asked, enter 139010*, (or 202107*) when asked enter the 4 or 6 digit code (obtained from Steps 1-3) from the radio and an *, for example using my code, 702712*, you will get an unlock code, write it down.

5. Go back to the car, press the HR button and set the first 2 numbers, then press minute button and set the next two last numbers, press AM FM button, SEC should be displayed, turn on radio

To remove customers code, repeat step 5. you should see --- on radio face, the code is now out of the radio.

If this doesn’t work, a Tech II scanner will have to be used.

This is supposed to work on 2002 and older radios? Good Luck.

Hi, I'm a newby and can't post a new topic yet. I am trying to install an in-dash

DVD player in my 2005 Silveradao. I have RSE in my truck and don't want to lose it.

From what I've read, if I change the head unit, I will lose the DVD.

I am considering puting the Alpine IVA-w205.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks

TJ

good news

I went over to the service writer at my dealer and he took the code that I pulled out and called in and had me fixed in about 2 minutes - no charge!

ahh... tunes again...

Ahh you stole it!!! Jk, glad you got fixed up free. There is actually a huge market especially on ebay for factory radios of any kind. I sold my single disc slave cd player for 147.81 on ebay, which I thought was great. I kept my regular dash radio to install back if I sell it, but GM radios sell for a lot on ebay, unlike fords, dodge, etc, radios which you can pick up for pennies sometimes.

The procedures that were posted earlier in this thread work - I just fixed mine. It's been locked for about a week.
