Reprogramming 07 Head Unit

I didn't opt for the bose upgrade in my silverado, just the single cd with mp3 jack. I was told by one of my genius buddies who "talked to the silverado engineer" that the head unit is the same as with the bose system and that a chevy tech can reprogram the firmware to take me from 4 ohms to the same as the bose system and give me 4 low level outputs to take straight to an amp. Is this true? I really like the look of my head unit and want to keep it if possible.

Ummm......probably because that would be too easy BJD3. Anybody have a bose head unit they are getting rid of?

Anybody know if it is a simple swap, aka plug and play.

I don't know if there are any for sale now, but there have been several in the for sale section of this site. As for being plug and play I can't give you a definite answer but I am sure they would just about have to be. It wouldn't be very cost effective for GM to change the plugs enough to prevent them from being plug and play. It just wouldn't make much sense for them not to be. But we also have to realize we are talking about GM, so maybe they aren't plug and play.

Even then you might end up getting a better sound if you just buy new speakers instead of upgrading firmware. I know it did wonders in my truck. Alot less bottoming out.

Pretty sure factory radios are vin-locked on the new trucks. You'd have to have a dealer reset to work on a different vehicle.

I heard something about that with the nav systems. Why are they doing that? Is it to deter thefts or just to piss off do-it-yourselfers? I saw one site that said the 07's are all wired together so if you change anything electrical you will throw off everything electrical.
