Spray-in Bed Liner.

I'm curious as to what most of you do/ recommend for the spray in bed liners...

As you may or may not know there is an option to spray over the bed rail or stop at the top edge on the inside of the bed. Does this have any effect on future installation of a bed rail mounted tonneau cover if one were to spray the rail?

Also, how does a sprayed bed rail look with a tonneau cover that fits within the rails of the bed?

Personal opinion and experiences welcome.

Under rail Line-X with Access brand tonneau cover on mine. Love it!

Is there a reason you guys went under the rail and not over?

I was thinking of having the rails done as well, but if there is a reason not to. The only thing I wondered was if a tonneau cover would fit if over the rail lining was done.

I've seen lots of people with over the rail and think it looks nice, thats what I'll go with when the money is available.

I have the Line X under the bedrail. The main reason I did under the rail is that I am going to install a Fold A Cover. I contacted Fold A Cover and inquired if I could install the Fold A Cover with Line X on the bedrail and they said yes, but it would work better if it wasn’t sprayed on the rails. In addition, the Fold A Cover rails cover most of the bedrail anyway. I think it all comes down to what you are going to do with the truck and personal choice.

I have Line-X over the rail, it made sense to me to pay extra to protect the rails. I don't have a bed cover but if I decide to get one I would get on that goes over the rails as well.

Over the rails. Seen numerous boxes scratched and dented on the rails.

Ames that red looks sharp, had no idea they could color match.

Before I went with the Beg rug, I did quite a bit of research into Spray in Liners and hard liner inserts. I was assured by LineX, Rhino and a few others installers, that most tonneau covers would fit over the application of over the rail spray liner.

Over the rail sprayed on liners is a personal preference. I went with the Bed Rug Liner insert because of my truck usage. I will not be put anything in it or over the bed rails that would scratch my truck (that's just me). It gives my bed the looks of an oversize truck, complelely carpeted. And also, with the bed rug, if I decide to sell my truck, it is easily removable and coming with me  .

I went with an Xtreme liner from a very reputable installer in the business for over 10 years. He used to spray Rhino, but the product changed for the worse. I considered LineX, but the local installer was only in the business for a year.

Over the rail was a no-brainer for me, as I load my truck with dirt, sod, branches, etc. on almost a weekly basis. I have an Extang Tri-Fold tonneau, and it seems to fit fine over the liner. Only weird spot is the rear spoiler which sits higher than bed, but the extra thickness of liner probably helps this some.

I am probably gonna go w/ the Over the rail approach when I get my '04 1500 WT sprayed next year. When I got mine I had the dealer install an over the rail liner. It's pretty d**n annoying whenever I try to use tie-down hooks, and the corners have rubbed all the paint off.

I just picked up my first truck ('03 GMC Sierra Ext) and the bed was literally spotless from the previous owner. This was due in part to the fact he had some type of cover on it. Whatever it was, it rubbed off the paint on the trailing edge of the front of the box and left four chips through clear/paint/primer on top of the rails in each corner.

As part of the deal in buying the truck the dealership sprayed a Rhino liner in the truck and did over the rails at my request to seal up the holes (after prepping them for any existing corrosion). Looks nice and I feel better knowing I won't have to worry so much about keeping the tops of the rails safe.

I'm looking into a bed cover of some sort now, but from what I've seen most foam strips are fairly pliable and thick that I can't imagine an over-the-rail application really being a problem with sealing. Then again...I haven't found out yet!

Very happy with Line-X on mine (under the rails). The main reason I didn't get it over the rails is that I was told the rough surface tends to hold road grime making it difficult to maintain a clean appearance. Also just like the appearance of the smooth painted tops of the rails. If I used the truck for rough service, would definately go over the rails.
