Time To Update My Sig.

Recommended Posts

I thought I would update my sig. Since I haven't been on here in over a year, I deceided to check in, and see what everybody was saying. That is when I noticed that my sig was a little out of date.

Since my last visit, I have added to my fleet, the 1994 K2500, and the 2001 2500HD. The 2001 2500HD is the wife's truck. Got a great deal on both trucks. And I love the look of the 2001~2002 Chevy HDs.

Also, I am trying to buy a 2002 2500HD Duramax. It was wrecked (rolled) less than two days ago, so the insurance company hasn't even had time to settle on it yet. I hope I can get it, it would be an easy fix it to return to the road. Sadly, I am afraid that if I can't get it, it will end up dismantled by a salvage yard somewhere, due to it's excessive miles.

I included this pic of my expanded fleet for all to enjoy. What ch'all think?

Nice rides. I have the '01 2500HD with the boss hood like yours. I like the fact that they only made that body style for two years and you don't see them all the time. I hate the look of the new silverados, the massive front bumper is just too much for me. I won't buy another silverado until they change the body style again and get rid if that ugly front end.

Thanks for the compliment texan.

If I can swing the deal on the wrecked Duramax, I will have 3 of the 01~02 HD trucks.

Sadly, to afford the Duramax, one or two of the others is going to have to go.

Nice fleet.... I'm sure your local gas station loves you.

I've got the 01 2500 HD also. I love the look. I specifically looked for an 01-02 b/c of the way they looked. Wish mine was red like the one you got!

That front end is also my favorite, oddly enough it was still available through '03 on the Suburbans anyway. Good luck on getting the Dmax.

nice rides man. I favor the 01-02 model years as well. I started looking for mine back in 03 when i was stationed in Japan. Didn't find one until August of this year. Bought it like a week after i found it.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Update on the Duramax.........

Well I didn't get it. The insurance company wa some corporate insurance company out of NY. They even had to hire a private adjuster to settle on it. Insurance company said it had to go to St.Louis, and that is the last I heard of it. Since the adjuster was an independent contracter, he couldn't offer any help.

Shame too, it was an easy fix, and now will probably be scrapped.

To the guys that commented on my '94 K-2500, it has a similar story, and it was in SAD shape. It belonged to an electric company in Texas, so it has no rust any where. I got it for a song. It did need about $350 in parts for the front end. Ball joints, tie rods, CV boots, etc. etc. etc. It had no bed, but I was able to find a BRAND NEW take off from a 2000 model K-3500. It was even white, the color that I needed, and had the HD fender flares. However, I paid dearly for that bed, I did make the guy throw in the body side mouldings for the door, and cab corner. But there again, no rusty parts.

The grille was originally the W/T grille, and I swapped it for the chrome "V-22" grille. I added the cab lights as all my trucks must have. While the frame was accessible, I painted it black. The wheels were painted silver, and I put the center caps off of my 2002 2500HD on it. The interior had about 20lbs of mouse poop in it. It was just easier to rip out all of the interior, and start over.

There are MANY more things I have have done to this truck, but it would take forever to list, but in total, not counting my labor, I have about $3500 in the ol' '94.

If I had to do it over, I wouldn't have spent the money to rebuild the IFS. Instead, I would have gone ahead and ponied up for brackets to hang leaf springs, and a Dana 60. But, I didn't know that this truck would turn out to be as pristine as it did. Oh well. It was originally only supposed to be a farm truck.

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
