Is There A Fuse To Pull That Can Reset Comp?

Recommended Posts

in some of the other newer GM cars and trucks i have delt with, you could just pull a fuse and put it back in after about 10 min or so .. to reset the 'adaptive learning' of the factory computer ...

does anyone know if the gmt900 has a fuse that will do that? ... or am i just down to having to disconnect the battery and reprogram my deck and such afterwards?

Dont know why you want to do a relearn but "'adaptive learning" means that its always learning your driving habits. Just drive it & enjoy.

i know the battery will reset it ... was hoping to figure out which fuse would as well ..

as for 'why' .. i have my own reasions ... more out of curiosity, mixed with a few other things...

Clearing the fuel & timing tables will make for poor performance & economy for at least 150 mi of driving. There is no benefit to clearing the tables . In fact the MFR installs data so they don't have the issues.

i have heard the 'no benefit' part before ... which i still do not understand ... because each car and truck i have done it to after making a few changes to it .. have showed a noticable difference after the initial learning cycle is done ...

Thats only temporary you will just revert back to where you were before you started. Remember its adaptive or always re learning your driving habits.

Isn't this why most after market parts manufacturers tell you to remove the negative battery terminal before installing new performance parts? I see no benefit of removing the cable from the negative battery terminal when installing an exhaust system, CAI, etc, other than to force a relearn with the new part! I've seen this in the install directions for parts on Ford, Nissan and GM vehicles, so it's not something that's brand specific! I also understand it's adaptive, but this speeds the process!

I understand where Devil's coming from as well, it's a PITA to reset all the presets on the radio, power seats, etc after disconnecting the battery to force a relearn! Pulling a fuse for the PCM would have the same effect and retain all the other pre-sets!

i know it is adaptive, and always relearning my driving habits ... which is why i want a 'fresh' start ... with the changes ... since you know enough about the system, can you offer help with the fuse... since that is what i am interested in ... not in a discussion about why i do not need to do what i am asking about ...

i know there is a fuse that will do it ... or at least should be .. since a majority of the other cars and trucks i did it on were GM products ... none were fullsized trucks though so the fuse layout is different ...

its a two-folded reasion ... one, so if you happen to mess up and short something out you dont fry anything ... and for the cars and trucks that are 'smart' .. to give them a fresh start with the mod in place ...

The reason they tell you to disconnect the battery is for static discharge its much worse than anything you can imagine, it will fry every sensitive component in your vehicle. Changing a component air filter, exhaust etc makes so little performance difference its not worth the trouble.

static discharge can happen and do damage even with the battery disconnected ...

now, if you wish to just continue arguing about why i shouldn't bother seeking the information i am, that is fine ... but i would prefer for you to have the argument with a mirror, instead of in this thread ... now, if you can actually offer information about what i am seeking, then thats great ...

as for what mods, i haven't listed any .... i am seeking this for information reasions ...

Freddy you just won't allow any threadjacking huh. LMAO. I will add my .02 and move on because I will most definitely threadjack.

Anyway, GM has changed some of their settings (as far as I know). GM puts the radio settings in the personalization options, so even if you remove the battery, it will keep the presets. I know they did it in my 04 Ranier anyway. I disconnected the battery for the same reason two or three weeks ago. But I see you have an aftermarket stereo, so it prob wouldn't work. I also have the memory seats, mirrors, etc.

I don't know about a fuse, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. Considering what is being powered, I would assume there is a fuse somewhere.

Sorry for being so long winded.

no problem thanks for the reply .... yeah with the aftermarket that kinda wipes out the factory part ...

after i finish with my trip tomorrow going to look over all of them, and prob try one or two that i think may be the right ones ...
