Pillar Noise

Ive got a 2004 silverado 1500 LT and theres a popping noise coming from the upper windshield area off to the sides near the pillars on both sides it only happens around 65 mph and up....is there anything anyone knows that it might be or what i could do to fix it? has anyone else experienced this

I had the same problem when I installed the GM vinyl bra on my 06. You can purchase a kit with double sided tape that will "glue" down the two black metal windshield hold down strips on the sides of the glass. The screws (torx or phillips) are located under the front door rubber seals. Good luck. BTW I returned the bra to the dealer.

most of the time those kinna noises can be from car bra's or bug shields, anything that messes with the aerodynamics of the vehicle... ive heard it where it sounds like little pebbles hitting the windshield(crackling kinda), if you dont have a bugshield or somthing you may need to have the windshield re-sealed....

thats exactly what it sounds like, pebbles hitting the windshield, i have a bugshield, how would i go about getting the windshield resealed?

on my 04 2500 I have the same noise coming from around the windshield I found that it was this small rubber flap in the bottom corner of windshield that flapped on the highway all I did was put a small amount of silicone on the bottom of it, it no longer flaps around hope this helps

take the shield off and it should go away... but to get it re-sealed, talk to any auto glass shop and they will do it, all they do is take the windshield off and re-glue it, i guess the glue weakens and causes it to flex to much at high speeds... but i would just take the bug shield off and not go thru all that...

The hood protecter (aka bug shield) is a nice accessory and protects the hood from road debris. I would not take it off when a little double sided tape and/or silicone under the windshield moulding will also solve the problem. But to each their own I guess.

ok, so if all i would have to do is seal the windshield up good and that would help it ?

i have never heard of this double sided tape idea and frankly i dont see how it would help, maybe if this were a wind noise but this is much different... try the double sided tape if you want, i would like to know if it helps, but i really doubt it will...

The double sided tape and instructions are contained in the GM vinyl bra kit that can be purchased from any dealer. The side windshield hold down brackets are removed and double sided tape is placed under the metal bracket. The popping noise is caused by wind turbulence created by the bra.

Yeah, I'm sure there is, but i've already got double sided tape... Just need to know where to stick it.

I don't have the kit anymore. The pillar noise and vibrating outside rear view mirrors caused by turbulence drove me crazy, so I returned it to the dealer. There are two semi gloss black brackets that run along the sides of the w/s. The fasteners (either torx or phillips) are located under the rubber door seals. The GM instructions recommend scribing a white chalk line on the w/s along the bracket before removal. This line serves as a reference point when putting down the tape so the tape won't stick out from under the backets. The two sided tape supplied by GM has a flexible vinyl cover so you can expose the tape surface after the bracket is reinstalled. Good luck.
