Trailer Plug Wiring Diagram

I have a 05 HD, great truck. I have a boat trailer which I recently upgraded the jack to a electric jack. I need 12 volts using at least a 10 gauge wire. My trailer plug cover (stock) shows the 1 oclock position (some diagrams red) should be + hot but no juice. I have since hooked the jack to my trailer running lights terminal but the fuse is only 15 amp and it blows with any decent strain. I metered all terminals on the truck but cannot find any juice unless I turn something on such as the lights. Have I missed something? Any help would be appreciated.

If you would have done a search, you would have come up with about 80 hits.

40 amp maxi fuse

space 2 underhood fuse panel

replace red "dummy fuse"

You can't miss it. It's space 2 for a diesel and gassers may be different, but the "dummy" is a red plastic plug. replace with 40 amp and you will have power to the plug

I also have a boat trailer 'attached' to my truck. What I did was run + and - direct lines to the back of the truck with an in-line fuse. This way I'm not 'accessing' any of the existing wiring on the truck, the trailer powerwinch is totally isolated in a circuit by itself. I also mounted at the back of the truck a plug that was compatible with the powerwinch plug. This system works great. This way if the winch ever fails, I only have to worry about the in-line fuse or any potential ground problems. If I remember correctly I ran 8 guage wiring.

I must not have searched correctly. Thanks guys, the 40 amp fuse worked out. Inncidentally I have another 30 amp inline fuse on the electric jack so as not to interfere with other accessories.

Can someone please tell me exactly where this fuse goes in an '04 8.1L Suburban 2500?

I have no red dummy plug, but there is a blue dummy (I assume) in the upper left corner that says "B+". Is that it?

Yes, I searched.

UPDATE: I replaced that dummy labeled B+ (the label in the wiring box cover was equally cryptic and non-descriptive) with a 40A fuse, and now I have power to my trailer. The owner's manual was also no help -- it says that the fuse should be installed by a dealer. Gee thanks. Note that my brake controller has always worked, so the fuse seems to power only the trailer power, not the brake controller connector under the dash. This conflicts with some of the comments on this forum, but in any case, I am now good.
