Time For Some Mods (performance And Cosmetic)

Hi everyone, this is my first new thread on here.

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra Z71 SLT ext cab 5.3L. Has 93000 miles.

Other than a Magnaflow exhaust, it is stock.

Today, I decided to try to spin the tires. With the brakes fully applied, I got on the gas. I hit it harder, and more, and more until it was floored. It was just sitting there revved up, no rear tire movement whatsoever.

Is three a type of traction control or something preventing this?

I mean, its a full-size GM V8! I figured it would smoke the tires. It will spin good when its wet, using no brake, however.

Other than that, the power seems to be pretty good.

Is it my technique or my truck?

Either way, I could use performance reccomendations. I only have about $300 right now, so they cant cost too much.

I am also looking at getting some DC-1 wheels, does anyone have these?

Thanks for any help that can be provided!

Well there's your problem. You don't fully apply the brakes the whole time and slowly ease in on the gas. You have to slowly ease off the brakes with good throttle in at the same time. If you can't get the tires starting to spin within a matter of a few seconds, you're pushing the truck too hard and asking for something to break.

Other than that, tires and gears are gonna have a part to play too. A 285 tire is going to have quite a bit more mass to break loose than a 235. If you gears are too high you're gonna have issues there too applying the power to the wheels.

Thanks, I see.

Ill try that tomorrow.

I only have the stock size 265-70-16's on it. I figure the gear is 3:73.

It kinda looks like in my first post, I was making this truck look like a "burnout machine". Its not that way at all, I understand that its a truck and it is not meant for that, but I know people with V6's that can spin them easier than me.

Just wanted to clear that up. :(

I see a new transmission in your future :(

I went thru 2 in my first truck back in HS and these were turbo 350's I thought neutral drops were ok :flag:

put 2 in my vette from jack rabbit starts and holding brake to finishing tires off that were ready to be replaced LOL. oh the tickets for Display of power were not cheap.

you will learn I did :)

I sure hope not. If my tranny goes out, I dont know what Ill do.

My slip yoke sometimes makes a jerking noise, especially when doing gas + brake.

I dont do that stuff often, I know its bad on it.

Try putting it in neutral, flooring it then dropping it into 1st gear.

Okay, the real problem here is that you have a considerable ammount of Anti-Abuse software built into your computer. Have the computer tuned and remove as much as possible without causing damage to the truck. www.wait4meperformance.com can do it for a good price. If this is not enough, I know a good engine guy that can do just about whatever you want.

Thanks for the replys.

I will be getting a wait4me tuner pretty soon.

How much will this cost if I keep my original PCM?

What are the choices of programs?

I am gonna try to stay under $200 no matter what tuner I get.

Thanks.

Thast not too expensive.

How much difference will it make and what programs are there to choose from?

I was also considering an air intake. Those things are so expensive though.

A 2000 GM 5.3 should not have much (if any) TM, they are still drive-by-cable. My 2000 GMC Sierra Z71 ext cab 5.3 with 3.73s and BF Goodrich All Terrain T/As 285/70/16 (huge) and a G80 locker would light up both rear tires and it was completely bone stock.

There has to be a TM somewhere, it just acts so different if I drive it shifting it myself. I can roast my tires off if i put it in 1st. It always wants to upshift so it doesnt spin anymore. From drive, if punch it from a dead stop, it will do a posi 3 foot burnout or so. If I put it in 1st I can spin it until the rubber melts off.

Well, that is an option! Ill try it in 1st. The only way Ive tried it so far has been in D.

I wonder what 2nd will do, if its as easy to spin?
